Important people don't do field work.

The sword fight in The Court Jester featured Basil Rathbone and Danny Kaye, though you'll notice that Rathbone is replaced from time with a stand in...Which was actually the fencing instructor on the film. Kaye was good, so its written somewhere...I'll have to find it, but he was wild, because the performance calls for someone who doesn't know what he's doing in places. Rathbone demonstrated his fencing skills several times in other movies, and tended to be very precise. In other words, he was a little overwhelmed by Kaye, and you'll notice that the swords in that scene are a little the worse for wear afterwards.

The sword fight is my favorite scene. Followed closely by "The Black Fox" song and dance number in the forest. And, both of those followed very closely by Danny Kaye having to show the baby's birthmark to people at the beginning and end of the movie. Especially at the end. That's a bloody hoot!

Plus...Angela Landsbury was so hot in that movie. So was Glynis Johns, I mean, she was pretty hot in most of the older movies she was in, but she looked great as a brunette!

As an added bonus: I got to write the phrase Angela Landsbury was so hot!

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Moulin Rouge

Goood one. The ending credits get me, straight thru the heart. Likewise, I am not a Kidman-hater (even if she did push our movie back 6 months). I thought she was heart-breaking in Moulin Rouge.

Maybe as a payback for delaying our wait for a sequel an additional half a year, Ms. Kidman could pry herself off of husband du jour and do a cameo in BDM II: Shadow. How about a scene with her as a saloon singer (kind of reprising her role as 'Satine') on some backwater moon.

Right after Simon's duet with her, Serenity departs on a Toulouse-Lautrec Life-Size Bobble-Head Doll run; but Simon vows to come back for her. Unfortunately, the Reavers attack within the hour, and we see her consumption-ridden lung inspected and then discarded, uneaten, onto the refuse pile.

A single tear flows from her lifeless eye, down her cheek, and onto the dusty ground; a fitting tribute to the ill-fated love she and Simon will never share... Then the camera pans back, and we can see that her face is now the left brassiere cup of Mama Hog, Chief Medicine Woman of the Reaver war party. She burps loudly and kicks at her brats, who are busily plucking the sideburns off that narcoleptic 'Roxanne'-singing guy...

Is there any movie that would not be instantly better with the addition of Reavers? Somebody wanna do Gigli?

Gastronomically,

zoid

P.S.
Wow. That was pretty disgusting, huh? I blame it all on Joss (and the anti-nausea medications I'm taking: "Do not operate machinery or express yourself on the Internet"). I mean, equating Reavers with biker mamas: Where do these sick thoughts come from?

P.P.S.
Your moniker, SaltyGoodness... Please tell me that's got something to do with really liking chicken noodle soup, or something innocuous like that...

I'm a bigger ANGEL fan than even Firefly. The first time Cordelia sees Angel (on Buffy) she says "Hello, Salty Goodness!" (also reprised in Spin the Bottle on ANGEL S4.

That would be Gerard. I've not seen the one with Josié Ferrer but I'd like to.

The thing with cinema is if you catch a film at just the right time in your life it has so much more impact on you....This was the case for me and Cyrano De Bergerac.

There are three DVD transfers. Alpha Video (DVD cover: full-colour head shot of Cyrano (for a B&W movie)) is $5, but is worth less; if possible, avoid it. The other two (DVD cover drawings, one on yellow background, other on black (double-feature)) are good transfers.

While not disagreeing with your principle, for me, Cyrano is so good it wouldn't matter.

It seems that most of my favorites are trilogies.

Back to the Future trilogy

Star Wars trilogy (THX'ed original, not the "Greedo shooting first" pansy-assed, lousy CG, version)

Lord of the Rings trilogy

Gone in 60 Seconds (original 1973 version)

Dead Alive (also known as Brain Dead)

for me the crow is my "number one all time, cant go wrong, give me more, could quote it word for word" movie. not just because of the plot, the real story of eric and shelley v's the blood and gore rush of revenge, or the almost hidden stories of "albreicht" "sarah" and "gabrielle"(the cat) this movie came at a particularly vunrable time in my life, and even though i watched it so many times i was quoting it word for word (i lost count at 147 times in the first two years of its release) i still to this day have parts of that movie seared into my mind. to remind me that "it cant rain all the time".

other than that, give me tarrantino, kevin smith, robin williams and robert rodreguez anyday... why settle for 5 movies when 1 movie and 4 awesome actor/director/producers will do?!?!?

I completely love every single frame of that movie. It's just incredible in every sense and I could literally watch it a trillion times. I'd say I found Ewan more heartbreaking than Nicole, but maybe that's because I'm a female? The throaty scottish cry at the end, got me *wipes away tear* I wonder what Baz Luhrmans up to at the moment, haven't seen him for a while. His Romeo and Juliet I thought was fantastic too, but Moulin Rouge has to be his best work.

As for being an Angel fan more than a Firefly, I thought yes I'm an Angel fan! No wait...Buffy's the first and best....no but hang on Firefly. So I'd just have to say, like Joss's wife Kai did, that they all satisfy a different need and I love 'em all equally :-)

Don't get me wrong, I love Moulin Rouge (I really do), but in my opinion Strictly Ballroom is just great. It is my favorite Baz work. Not everyone can watch it and enjoy it...in fact I've only met four other people...and the Pope (it's one of his favorite movies, odd...oh and I haven't met the Pope).

If you like Baz, try Strictly Ballroom.

So, it's a 'blood' thang, then. I thought it might be some obscure reference to a pet name for Lot's wife, post-Sodom...

P.S.
Since it was strictly girl-girl, it was okay for you to point out the 'other fluids' possibility. I'd have been accused of being a lecherous hump if I'd openly suggested it. (NB: Even tho' the thought had likewise crossed my mind... Just call me 'LH', okay?)

When I was living in the dorms in Nebraska when I first joined the Air Force (lo, these many years ago), we were getting ready for an inspection. Me, and my two other roommates shared two rooms. We moved all our beds into one room, and all the entertainment stuff into the other. So, of course, before the inspection, we had to move everything back again, and vice versa once it was done. We accomplished it, but that night, there were two movies on that we couldn't stop watching. One was Cocktail, and I stand beside it. I think its a great movie, and I enjoy watching it every time I see it. The other was Strictly Ballroom, and it was like crack on the screen...While we were trying to clean and watch the movie, several other airman came into our rooms (we were kind of a gathering place for most of them), sat down, and started watching it with no complaint. I like all of Baz Luhrman's movies.

Plus, I noticed that in I, Robot, Sonny moved just like Paul Mercurio.

Actually, that's a joke. I mean, I know he was the choreographer for the movie, teaching robot movement, but I didn't notice anything.

The only other thing I want to say about Paul Mercurio is that after seeing Exit To Eden, I've seen too much of him. Every other shot in that flick is of that man's ass.

Blech!

think it odd, that today of all days, we should be discussing Ballroom and Paul Mercurio? It's his birthday.

i admit too much of a nice ass can be a bad thing...sometimes...other times it is very much a good thing...i kinda liked it.

RUE

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

To Kill a Mockingbird - rabies was a big deal where I grew up, the scene with the rabid dog struck fear into me
Blade Runner - an alien earth
Never Cry Wolf - one scene of mountains, it gave me a feeling I can't describe
The Duelists - gorgeous photography, and great physical acting in a duel scene
The Man Facing Southeast - I have no idea why it had such an impact, but after all the years, it is still quietly there

I saw that somebody likes (? did I get that right - likes?) Brazil. I squirmed through the whole thing. The ugly city, the oozing face ("I had a complication of my complication"), the claustrophobia, the torture ... kneecap vs electric drill ...
