I know we discussed this before, but with renewed interest. Give your thoughts. I'd like to see Charisma do it, but I think Amy needs some "spotlight" time. She's got the ability, and based on what Joss has said he wants to get to the heart of this character.

Unless thatweirdgirl is planning on trying out then I can say "I knew her when...."

I'd prefer Amy over Charisma to play Wonderwoman - but really I'd rather see an unknown come to the role.

Amy or Charisma would be too 'Fred' and or 'Cordie'

I'd rather see an unknown get the role.

The lead actress in our movie, Tanya Dempsey, would be a good choice. She's talented, beautiful, and has the athetic ability to play the role. She did several fight scenes and wire work for our film, and she was a natural.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

Neither. Amy just doesn't look the part to me. Though she's a great actress. Charisma hasn't really done much for me. Season 4 of Angel really dropped her right off my list though. She didn't sit well with me that whole season.

I wouldn't mind Jewel playing the role though

Can't see Charisma as Wonder Woman... or Jewel, as much as I love her. If we're going with Whedonverse the only one that comes to mind that might get close to the image in my head is Morena... (or maybe Eliza Dushku on an outside choice, but I don't think on the whole she'd be right for it).

But yeah, I'd rather go with a talented relative unknown - Whedon seems to have a talent for finding them, so let him do his thing.

Have to say, I agree with you. Joss has a talent for finding new people for us to all fall in love with every time we see them. I say forget the old and bring in the new. I wanna remember Amy and Charisma as the fantastic characters they WERE and support them in any new projects, but bring on a newbie for me as WW. I don't doubt Joss could already have met her when casting his net for previous projects as that seems to be his way but I believe he would want a newbie anyway to avoid cries of nepotism.

Let's not forget that the Wonder Woman character is an AMAZON!

It would be silly to cast anyone under 6' tall which rules a LOT of actresses out.

WW, as drawn in the comics and cartoons, is taller than Batman's pointy fake bat ears!

I've enjoyed the Justice League animated portrayal of WW and hope Joss looks to this fine series during his research mode.

Hmmm somehow I think that might cause some controversy. When what's her name from Dark Angel got cast as Sue Storm for Final Four people complained that her skin tone was too dark to play Sue. I doubt that argument would go away if Gina were cast as WW.

Maybe Morena though. I guess I could see that. I can't quite picture Eliza being WW though. She's way too Faithish in my mind to be WW. What about the lady who played Kate on Angel? With dark hair I could see her as WW.

Well, I'm a huge WW fan...She's one of my heroes along with Charlie Brown.

I'm okay with Gina playin her..Gina has one of those world looks, she can belong in any place. Check out her gallery on her website http://www.gina-torres.com/ she has a lot of varied looks.

If we're going for a Greek actress...Vana Barba is very nice on the eyes...I haven't seen her work so I can't comment on that ('Mediterraneo' won an Oscar).

That's Jessica Alba. I think she could pull off Wonder Woman. So could Kate Beckinsale. Not Amy, or Charisma, they just don't have the feminine machismo, whatever that means. But an unknown might just be the best choice, I agree with that sentiment.

Not exactly very super 'hero-ish'.....Perhaps a little dramatic license is needeed.

I don't know much about the Wonderwoman character but that outfit she wore seems to contradict her origins, if indeed she is supposed to be Amazonian and Greek.

Almost certainly not; breasts would have to be absurdly large to interfere with archery. As in Pamela Anderson large. It was in the myths, but bear in mind that all of these myths were recorded by men, who probably didn't get anywhere near close enough to an Amazon to make any real examination of thir breasts (though I'd imagine there were attempts. Probably fairly heroic efforts too).

Besides, Wonder Woman isn't much of an archer. She's more into hand-to-hand or lasso, or sword/shield when they're available, but she doesn't carry them as a matter of course. Her main weapons are the silver bracers (gauntlets) that can block bullets (thanks to her inherent super-speed) and even some energy weapons. The Golden Lasso is a conduit for her own powers, and can compell the truth --no one caught in its coils can lie, though some beings (*cough*Batman*cough*) can twist the truth so that they might as well be lying.

The Amazons of Themyscira (Diana's home island) are more greco-roman than archaic. Think Xena in a toga or roman lorica segmentata armour. Mostly swords & shields, though I'd guess there's a sizable corps of archers. Diana's just not one of them.

Quote:

keep men as slaves and kill their children if they were born male?
The Themyscirans are a bit more civil than their ancestors might've been. No men are permitted on the island (except for the Justice League, as guests of Diana), and any male children are sent away into the "man's world" (i.e., off the island). No slavery that I'm aware of, though I'm no expert (more of a JLA group fan than any one in particular).

Diana's only really Amazonian quality is her temper. When something pisses her off she tends to rip its arms and legs off and beat it to death with them.

Quote:

Well, Diana isn't technically an Amazon; she's a created being. Basically an Amazon version of the Galatea story.

Hippolyta (Queen of the Amazons) wanted a daughter, so she created a baby out of clay. The gods (Olympians) took pity on her, and brought the child to life, each of them bestowing a gift of an ability (speed of Hermes, strength of Atlas --not unlike what happened to Captain Marvel).

Eventually, the child grew up, but she couldn't condone Themyscira's militantly isolationist policies. She left the island to serve as an ambassador to Man's World, and eventually became a founding member of the Justice League.

This is the trouble with Myths because in the Ecyclopedia I have, they did indeed remove their right breast and it was to facilitate the firing of a bow. Myths very rarely followed logic, just narrative hyperbole. Also Heracles' ninth labour was to retrieve Hippolyta's girdle, which she gave willingly or so the myth goes. So there's one man who came into contact with them.

But I was merely trying to establish the roots of the character, because as I said I have little knowledge about her -- but it would seem to me that she really isn't particularly Amazonian as was stated by HJERMSTED a reason for his/her not approving of the notion that either Amy or Charisma could play the role.

So to sum up; Wonderwomam is from where? She's not like Superman from another planet is she? You say she's a created being or at least Diana is? (Is that Wonderwoman's earth name? Sorry I got lost around this bit) but aren't we all? So I'm still non the wiser as to Wonderwoman's origins y'see.

Anyway I appreciate the lowdown you gave me.... I just got a little muddled between ancient myth and the comic lore.

I've not found myself becoming at all a fan of Amy Acker, to be honest... she kind of irritates me, though not nearly to the extent that Michelle Trachtenberg does...

Plus, Charisma Carpenter is just plain HOT...

... that being said, I feel neither is right for the part. Wonder Woman is supposed to be a tall, muscular chich, and hot as CC is, she looks like she eats every other day (a fan of skinny women I am not).

As long as it's not Halle Berry, I think we'll be fine with any choice made.

Yep, Definitely Gina, the pictures of her in Hercules could almost be WW in a better outfit (oooooww someone just shot me).

She would be pretty cool, Angel and Buffy are too iconic so those actors are doomed. Firefly never made it into the public consciousness and with one big-arse blockbuster on the way she could be a safe bet for the money-men - cheap and a 'break-through' actress.

As for the skin tone they might be able to blag she is a better looking Halle Berry who can act (aaarrrrggghhh, there goes my eye). I can't believe it is even an issue though, weird!

As much as I like Amy and Charisma, I'd have to say I don't either one is right for WW. Gina has the right look and demeanor and if Joss casts her that's fine with me but I'd rather see a traditional (traditional in terms of the comic book) interpretation. The only "name" I can think of is Angelina Jolie. I can see a dark-haired Elizabeth Rohm. Someone at another sight put up a picture of Claudia Black. Seems plausible. I'd never heard of her until reading that post. I'd like to be surprised. And I'm trusting Joss' judgement.

Themyscira is an island, presumably a hidden one (either through magic or some kinda extra-dimensional thing) that can still be found if you know right where to look. It's possible that the Amazons moved to Themyscira sometime after the "mythic age" (which would explain why they look more Roman than Greek), to get away from folks like Hercules and practice their fighting skills in peace. Huh, bit ironic, that last. . .

And yeah, Wonder Woman's "real" name is Diana (she often uses "Diana Prince" when she needs a full name, though I'm not sure if that's "legal" or just "I need a last name 'cause everyone else has one").

She's "created" in that she was never actually born (and has no "father" in the biological sense), she started out as a clay sculpture that came to life. Any genetic similarity she has to her "mother" (Hippolyta) is a result of magic, though considering the resembance between Hippolyta and Diana it's possible that she's a sort of clone (i.e., the gods directly copied Hippolyta's genome).

Actually, she's kinda like Dawn Summers. Only based on Joyce instead of Buffy.
