OK. Their site says "Browncoats are forced to live as galactic outcasts." and "Captain Malcolm Reynolds is a hardened veteran on the losing side of a galactic civil war..."

Galactic?

I don't think that it was a galactic anything. Glactic would imply the galaxy or atleast a really large chunck of it. "Let me do the math here..." but I don't think anything was ever said in Firefly beyond the word "system". They also said stuff like "core worlds" and "out on the ring" but I don't think galactic. It would seem that the Firefly "universe" was a really large solar system or a star cluster (cluster of systems).

Rant mode: off.

When I die I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandpa. Not screaming and yelling like everyone else in the car he was driving.

They just use words like galactic to make the movie seem epic and exciting. Don't worry, I've heard that the movie clarifies the size of the Firefly 'verse.

I heard that Inara is really a guy. Ooops! ( pardon my being a smart ass) But does gossip or conjecture really count as a spoiler?

" I heard...from a friend of mine, whose big sister knew a guy who lived next door to the mailman for the guy who worked on the studio of Serenity..."

If so, I'll put my pointed had on and go sit in the corner. You DID say 'pretty please'. Now I feel bad.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

we are way past gossip and conjecture,
a LOT of people at this site have seen the movie,
and they are sharing every detail with others.

And I am doing my very best to avoid them and those they tell...
but then we get to the people who 'heard from a friend'...
and what they heard is the real deal, things that will happen.

and September is a long long ways away.
so pretty soon a lot of stuff will become common knowledge,
with no effort to keep it secret.

And when you're sitting in the theater and we find out about Inara's sex change operation, you'll be thinking...
oh sucks...all the surprise and shock of that revelation is gone because I heard about it more than six months ago.

I guess really I should just stop going to any Firefly/Serenity sites,
if I really want to see the movie with complete innocence.

I've been reading some of the scripts... cause it's like 195,000 days until the movie... and there's some stuff that doesn't get into the show. One interesting, topical bit of dialogue is from Our Miss Reynolds, Mal to Saffron:

"But for the rest,
damnit, be like a woman is. Not no
petrified child. There's more'n
seventy little earth's spinning about
the galaxy, and the meek have
inherited not a one. Do you
understand what I'm saying to you?"

(it might be in the dvd and I just didn't hear it...)

I'd like to be king of all Londinum and wear a shiny hat.

But "size of the universe"? Spoiler? Not so much.

'cept how I just thought how it could be... so I stand corrected and I'll get my coat.

Now, if Asa had said "I heard it was this." Or "I heard it was that." That would be a spoiler. Merely stating that the issue is addressed and resolved would be like saying River's going to be in the movie, along with Mal and the others. And they're going to fly around in Serenity. Not a spoiler.

Referring to them as "Galactic" outcasts isn't necessarily inaccurate. Even assuming the Firefly verse is restricted to one large solar system(albeit an unusual one), Solar systems reside in Galaxies. We are galactic beings ourselves, every molecule of us once resided in a star.

Its all in the interpretation.
