... "Enterprise" is done. May 13 will be the very last episode, and there's talk that "Star Trek" as a whole is over and done with for a while. The last couple of movies didn't do well, "Enterprise" has been a major disappointment... 18 straight years there's been new eipsodes of a "Star Trek" franchise under one name or another... time for a break, I guess.

Wow. Star Trek is older then I am. Thats a bit unsettling.

Hey, on that note, my birthday is the 22nd of this month!

Well, that's just since Star Trek, The Next Generation started, Ebo. Picard and Data and that bunch.

Why, The Real Little Me was watching the original Star Trek that had Kirk and Spock back in the 1960s! It's OLD. It started in what, 1967?

* The Real Me refuses to count the years, since Star Trek is not the ONLY thing getting OLD... *

1966. The little knibblet was in kindergarten. Yes, I was watching.

America loves a winner!

I believe the term that best describes this is...
" going to the well once too often." Clearly there's ample room for all manner of stories and fascinating adventures, but must it be all told at once ? Obviously not.

There's more to this 'verse than just Star Fleet.

Who else thinks "taking a break" means a few months?

Star Trek has been a cash cow for a long while. I'm sure just about anyone can pitch a Star Trek show and get a timeslot.

Woohoo!!

(Sound the trumpets as I do my dance of happy.)

I always thought Enterprise not getting cancelled was a sign that the universe was going to hell. My faith in people has been momentarily restored.

Maybe they could take it in a little different direction. You know, instead of the stalwart crew of a starship, they could be on a renegade freight hauler, trying to get by on the fringes of civilization. Hire some decent writers, build up really interesting story arcs to keep 'em coming back. Heck, I think we could save this whole Star Trek thing yet!

The funny thing is, that's exactly the kind of direction they ought to go in. Something more personal, something more about the characters. Something, well, more like Firefly.

Eons ago, there was a proposal to do a half-hour comedy called Scotty's Place about the retired Scotty owning a saloon on a space station. Okay, Scotty's dead; how about Worf's Place? I see him taking on Quark and the Ferengi Mafia for the survival of dank drinkeries everywhere!

Of course I'm not serious! It's time to wave bye-bye to the little Paramount Cash Cow that Could. May Firefly inherit the mantle of oldest fan-fave.

WILDBILL

I've heard that the idea of a spin-off featuring Harry Mudd had been kicked around. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Would have been cool - a little smuggling, a little thieft, a lot of nose-thumbing at the Federation.
Soon after I starting watching Firefly, I thought that the Alliance was like the Federation from another point of view.

I'm still pushing the "Evil Spock" concept myself. Set in the "Mirror, Mirror" universe with (the best Star Trek character ever) Evil Spock blowing shit up, being merciless with his enemies, and eventually bringing down the empire.

SERENITY NOW!!

MAUGWAI

Enterprise just wasn't the farm for amazing writers that the other Star Treks were. Michael Pillar moved on to run The Dead Zone. Enterprise was the first star trek since TNG to run without him on board. Ronald Moore is now running Battlestar Galactica, and I think we can all agree on his amazing talent. I'm sure there are other super-talented writers who got their start in the Star Trek franchise. I just don't know if Enterprise had that kind of draw for brilliance. And if the writing isn't up to par, nothing else will be. So sad.
