So, invite a friend. Maybe you'll get them hooked and then they will get the DVD's to see what they missed out on.

I've lent my DVD's out to just about everyone I know in an effort to spread the word. I'm gonna get as many of them as I can to the theater to see Serenity. Preferably more than once.

Your first trip to the cinema alone? Wow, I normally prefer to go to the cinema alone, I generally can't stand my friends asking me where they recognise someone from, what happened while they were in the toilet and stealing my popcorn.

But I'm going to the preview screening on Tuesday week with an old university friend. Wow, that's just 930,231 seconds until I see the Big Damn Movie (or at least the rough cut).

She better not steal my popcorn.

You're assuming I have friends? How kind :)

Nah, all my friends pretty much look down on everything I like film, TV and book wise. Ruddy chick-flickers!

I may be able to persuade my mum and auntie to come along. Just lent my DVDs to my aunt, she says she's watched the first three eps and wasn't too impressed. No substance to them apparently.

I have a friend who I only went to the cinema with once and then refused to go with her again. She kept jumping at bits that weren't even scary and saying things like "oh my god". Grrr.

I have another friend who whistles through his nose while he breathes and that's may more annoying than popcorn pinching.

If Serenity was still being released in April, I would have gone with the only friend I have who cares about Firefly. As it is now, I'm probably going with my sister and any other Browncoats I can round up.

You might end up going alone but I bet you'll meet another Browncoat in line or something. Just start singing the theme song and see if anyone joins you.

Who're you gonna watch Serenity with?

Did anyone else misread that and almost think it was Mal asking the question of Inara?

I'm going to be watching on opening night with,
Handsome Husband
Brother and Sister-in-Law
Next door neighbor and her daughter
Two door down neighbor and his two kids (probably his wife too).
Other Browncoats.

We're going to attempt to get an opening night shindig going at a local theatre.

I used to feel weird about going to movies by myself, but now I do it all the time. I don't work Mondays, so I can wait and go to a matinee on Monday and not have to deal with the weekend crowds/kids/etc. I just bring a good book to read until the movie starts.

Anyway, I'll probably see the BDM with my best friend who I'm sure I will have converted by then, and if not she'll still go with me because she loves me. (Not in a Willow way. Not that there's anything wrong with that .)

Packer fans welcome.

i'm not sure (no release dates yet for australia) but it is entirely possibly that I will be in outback Papua New Guinea when the BDM is released (no internet, no movies, etc)... which is sort of an issue for me. not sure how to get around it.

i'm hoping that i will be able to travel 600km's to my sisters place so i can see it with her. i know, what your thinking- why go 600k's away when you have a pefectly good movie theatre where you live. well, although i have converted a few people in my home town, i'd rather see it with my sister and her flatmate, as they are the only other people i know that are absolutely obsessed with this show. fortunately, sept 30 fall right in the middle of my holidays, so i should have no problem getting down there. of course, when i get home i will have to drag all my friends to see it, not to mention all my other family members and everyone else i have ever met!!

I'm planning to watch with anyone of my friends- anyone willing to see an action flick or however I spin it. Remember, Joss didn't write this film only for Browncoats- it was so that the uninitiated could enjoy it too.
I'm not telling people to drag people to the movie- but just ask people to go watch it with you- even if they don't end up being hardcore Serenity fans- they'll at least be engaged for 2 hours. I'm going to take my friends and family- most have never even heard about Firefly.
I'm not going to tell them it will be a great film, but I'll tell them that I've heard a lot of great things about it and I'm pretty sure they'll want to see it.

Which time?

I'll probably go opening day by myself, as I plan to see it multiple times that day. (Obsessed? Me? Nah!) I'll probably see it again that weekend with some friends who are Browncoats. And then, depending on when the PA Shindig is this year, there has been some talk of the lot of us going to see it, so there's another possible trip.

I will be going to see serenity with as many friends as i can convince to come along. We'll have a few more converts after the BDM, mark my words. On the topic of recruitment, Im lending my Firefly DVD's to my university classmate, Chris, when I see him next week. We tend to like all the same things, so I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it.

Hey, I've got no problem going to a movie alone. I can watch w/ out being distracted and don't have to share my popcorn w/ nobody.
But as for Serenity, I plan on taking at least 2 friends, hopefully more. On opening day. After that, I'll prob go see it again - alone.

I may be headed down to North Carolina to crash the shindig/premier party Static has talked about arranging. See, my son's in South Carolina with his mom, so maybe I could swing by down there and pick him up and bring him along too. If that doesn't work out, I'll just go to the local theatre by myself, most like, and hope to run into some other fans.

Where sre you going to Uni? We only use the word Uni in England right? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe we should sort out some sort of screening for us British browncoats whether it gets released in the cinema or not.

I'm gonna see it with my Mum who may have turned in to an even bigger fan than me. My brothers a reluctant fan but I'm sure I can bribe him to come along!

First, I'm not so much annoyed as exasperated. It gets really tiresome saying 'he/she', especially since it sounds mildly insulting. I always presume that the person whom I am addressing is very specific, genderwise. They're just keeping secrets, if they don't utilize their profile page.

Age, color, creed, etc., are really of no import to me (although if one includes one's age, I'll know if arguing the merits of 1982's Bladerunner is lost on someone born the same year).

So, I read your profile and it turns out you're distinctly female. If you're married to Johnny Depp, you're Vanessa Chantal Paradis. Nice work.

Investigatively,

zoid

I will definitely be going alone the first time I see Serenity. Hopefully at a nearly-deserted midnight or matinee showing. I really would prefer to have the entire theatre to myself, if at all practicable.

After that, I and the kids will go once the first week, and then as many times as they'd like the second week. If they decide one viewing is enough and don't want to go the second week, I'll just ground them to their rooms with no TV, computers or gaming systems and go by myself at least twice. (NB: Ahhh! The joys of parenting!)

And of course, I'll be buying a seat and a soda at each showing for Lux Luthor, a Browncoat through-and-through, gone but not forgotten. Yes, all this will prove very expensive. But what was I planning on spending the money on otherwise? Food and housing? Ya' gotta have priorities, I always say...

Decidedly,

zoid

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I am of the same mind as Zoid, in that I will be going alone for my first viewing of the BDM at the theatre. As I have taken opening day off for the premiere, I most likely will see it twice.

The weekend of the premiere I will be taking my wife and the kids as they are all Firefly fans. I will be going at least 4-6 more times in the first two weeks the BDM is out, going w/ my converts and the local Firefly Meetup group.

Sorry to hear you have no one to go to the movie with Aramina. September is still a good way off, perhaps you will have someone to go with by that time. All you have to do is share the DVD set w/ a few people and I am sure you will have some converts.

Just coz I was born in the same year as Bladerunner, doesn't mean I haven't seen it.

I assume, ya I know, the entire local browncoat population. I mean, come on, you have to go to the first showing.

I'll be taking Jake with me. I'm sure my folks will be there. Um, maybe some of the guys Jake works with; we usually all get together for the sci-fi stuff. I hope some of my coworkers. Perhaps the regulars and staff at my favorite watering hole.

You'll know it's me because I'll be singing the theme song and several of Lux's catchy songs. If Jake has anything to say on it, and he does, I might not be in costume. I'm still practicing my powers of persuasion.

Especially, "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

I don't believe any single line of soliloquy has had a greater impact on my philosophical outlook. That, combined with a line I can't recall the source of (paraphrased): "One hundred years from today, you and everyone you know and love -- your children -- will be dead and gone."

Humanity and all our appurtenances -- culture and society and righteous causes -- are not so much a solid, as they are a slow-flowing liquid. Like glass. One hundred years from today, these thoughts, these cares, the wealth I might scheme to attain, will be lost like tears in rain; expunged from any record by the slow rub of Time, and the indolent meanderings of the river of Humanity.

The only record that can hope to remain is Art. Ars Longa, Vita Brevis. In every sense.

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
Ars Longa and Vita Brevis are the names of Heinlein's Lazarus Long's pack mules. The saying is also the stem of "So many women, so little time". Just to tie things up with a neat little bow.

I think I'm going for a solo trip to the theater myself. That depends on two things though. 1.) if there is a midnight showing here 2.) if I dress up as Wash

If either of those occur I'll be going alone. Otherwise I might be able to drag some friends to it. I expect to see it with them in one of my viewings at least.

Dude. Depending on the weather, I'll either be dressed as Wash or Jayne. But only because that's how I normally dress (casual). If it's warm: sunglasses, Hawaiian shirt, Chinese military pants, sandals. If it's too coolish: long-sleeved Izod knit shirt (vee or mock turtle necks), Chinese military or USAF BDU pants, Nike ACGs (hiking boots). Those are about the only things I wear after business hours.

So, I don't see where going dressed as Wash is going to make you look like a hopeless fanboy. Maybe a slob with no sense of style; but, hey, I --like Wash and Jayne -- am all about comfort and utility. Everyone offended by my dress habits can osculate my gluteals...

Whoa! Deep. Perhaps a little too deep for me. I'm only a masters student.

So, I don't see where going dressed as Wash is going to make you look like a hopeless fanboy. Maybe a slob with no sense of style; but, hey, I --like Wash and Jayne -- am all about comfort and utility. Everyone offended by my dress habits can osculate my gluteals...

Sartorially,

ZOID

Zeek:

Army/Navy Surplus. Even in the 'wannabe' city I live in we've got three or four. I've probably got 20 pair of the Chinese ones (c. $27 each), in various states of wear. Some are only fit for mowing the lawn, anymore. I like the Chinese ones because they're baggier, with bigger pockets and more breathable fabric than the USAF ones. When winter hits, I put on a pair of sweat pants underneath them (I refer to this combination as 'shells and sweats'); I stay warm outdoors, even with Midwest winds sweeping in from across several flat states, and I'm comfortable indoors, too.

I've got desert-issue and forest camo summer-weight BDUs for everything else. I couldn't go back to jeans if I tried...

-zed
