I've been thinking about getting a Firefly-themed tattoo recently, and just saw that Blue Sun temporary tattoo. That's not exactly what I had in mind, but then I'm not really sure what it is that I want.

Chinese characters, certainly, probably 'Firefly' in flame-letters. It gets real complicated from there, because I love that one .art file, of Kaylee with Serenity breaking Atmo in the background and the words 'no power in the verse can stop Kaylee from being cheerful.'

That's a little much 8-), as in, a lot of pain for a guy who's never had a tattoo before.

Any thoughts from my browncoat brethren and sistren?

Vince- who thinks 'Hot-For-Kaylee' might work

Hopefully, the tattoo artists in your burgh will be ethical enough to try to talk you out of this.

I know a whole boatload of ink specialists and NONE of them would do this. They'll tell you that they won't permanently mark your body with (among many limitations):

Cartoon figures
Rock band logos
Vulgarities
TV show art

I love Firefly, but really don't think when I keel over and my grand neices and nephews have to get the carcass smoked, they'd understand Serenity tattoed across my ass.

That's why I'd go with somthing Chinese. springs to mind because it can refer to the show or not.

I appreciate what you're saying, but it's past time I did something a little wild. Besides, who's to say I won't chicken out 8-)?

For me, that's a good enough reason. Have fun and remember to keep relaxed. :) Cover it and use sunscreen for two years so the colors don't fade.

Hey! That tattoo in the link is MINE! And I disagree - As someone who has tattoos from Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Dark Tower, Neverending Story, X-Men, and 2 different anime movies, I may firmly state that your tattoo artist WILL do pop culture ink. They may sneer or even outrightly make fun of you, but in the end it's your body and money in their pocket. I have 13 tattoos, and whether it's your 1st or 13th, tv show-related or self-designed: follow your gut and get something you really like. Screw anyone else who doesn't like it...it's your skin.

(My husband has a blue sun logo tattoo!)

As a former tattoo artist myself, I would advise you that only two things never change in your life. Thats your mom and your kids :-) Think of the cool guy who got the Billy Jean, Beat It, Thriller combo all those years ago. Not saying Josh will pull a MJ on us.....But ya never know. Think about it and go with what feels right in the end.

Post a picture at the Blue Sun Room when you have it. Please.

I agree with one thing - it's your life and it's your skin. And when you are dead, why worry about the opinions of who's planting you.

Only thing to remember, very seriously, is this:

A tattoo is forever. You better want it. Damn, you better well need it. I have two, planning two more for a set - I am aware of what I am doing.

Just go into it with your muscles relaxed and completely sure it is what you want permanently inscribed on your flesh.

A man who loves, you buys you flowers. A man who wants you, buys you diamonds. But a man who trusts you - buys you weapons!

HELL'S KITTEN

Go for it. Have fun. Just one thing, though: If you intend to get Chinese characters, might wanna make damn sure the characters are actually right before you have it done. You might also want to go to someone who knows how to correctly ink those characters. Get the translation and characters from a native speaker. Really. You get one wrong stroke or incorrect character combination, and you end up having IDIOT DOG BRAIN tattooed on your back when you really wanted BROWNCOAT FOREVER.

All good points. I definitely want the Chinese characters for Firefly, and I know where I can get somebody to doublecheck them for me. I'd also like to get 'Firefly' in flame/gold letters. Probably do this in stages, with the Chinese characters high up on my left shoulder (I'm a lefty).

The line-drawing tattoo of Serenity is a winner, too. If you don't mind, I think I'll copy-cat that one 8-)

I do think I'll take my time and get this started in another month, after I give blood again, because I won't be able to donate for a year after I do it :-(
