I think so anyway!

What say ye? I learned that the Western-themed, very yummy restaurant "Johnson's Big Apple" have back rooms where people can meet! I think either the one in downtown Phx or the one in Mesa would be best.

Sound good? If so, are there any upcoming weekend days that you definately would not be able to attend? That way I can figure out a good date to meet...

Or if you have a better idea for a shindig, speak up!

Edited to add:

Forgot to mention, the manager at the downtown Phoenix location said that the room held up to 36 people, there's no charge to use it if we reserve ahead of time, and he wasn't sure if there was an outlet where we could plug in a laptop...

Oh, and here's a link to the menu:

Hey, I'm in. Big Apple was the first place we ate when my family moved to Arizona oh so many years ago. They don't fool you, they feed you.

The dates that jump out at me are the 5th(Sat), 6th(Sun), 12th(Sat), and 13th(Sun) of Feb.

Any of these days not work for anyone? For me, if it's a Saturday I'd prefer it to be in the evening.

Oh, and bump!

A weekend would probably be the only time I could go unless it was close enough for me to make it after work.

I had looked into www.farrellis.com for renting because it's great place that serves dinner and has a movie size screen. But it's about $800 to rent on a weekend.
The Big Apple is a great idea.

On the 12th I'm going to the Pasadena thing Odile is organizing. The 5th would be ok for me.

How many people does it hold? (I'm thinking for down the road, when there may be more Phoenix browncoats in existance...)

Edited to add quote.

What about Sundays? Like would the 6th or 13th work?

Another?! I MISSED ONE?!?!

Well I won't be missing this one if I can help it!! Count me in!

Most weekends work for me, at the moment. Although...I'm applying for a job tomorrow that is only on the weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) But we'll see. I don't know if I am going to get it, when it even starts, and what the hours are (I'm guessing 9am-3pm, but I'm not sure).

You all decide on the date. Any of those days sound fine to me at the moment, and anywhere is fine. I have been in AZ for 7yrs now and haven't been to about 90% of the restaurants, so I'm always open to new places.

If I get the job, I'll re-post with details in regards to it.

Thanks :)

One the teachers at my son's Middle school is also a Browncoat. She's uber-busy, so I doubt she can come.

But it's good to know I'm not alone! Seems AZ really doesn't do much in the way of Sci Fi. It was a little disappointing after re-locating from Alaska (21yr as a resident there). We got a Star Trek convention in Anchorage pretty much every year (drove down from Fairbanks for one of them). I never see much of anything like that here. Maybe I miss it all. *shrug*

You could casually mention to her that Nathan's parents just happened to drop into our first Shindig and see if that loosens up her schedule.

Sundays could work, but I'd say Saturdays would be better. Daughter will insist on coming, of course, and she has school bedtime issues. Hey - middle school too!

Yeah, I miss all the sci-fi stuff that was in the northwest. :(

The was the Sakura-con (anime covention) in Seattle, a lot of sci-fi authors live in the area, lots of little independent theaters, etc. Heck, I even interned at Dark Horse for a while!

But browncoats are everywhere, if you look hard enough. We may be crouched in the bushes, hiding from the Alliance, tossing DVDs out at unsuspecting passerby, but we're here!

I would guess fifty. I beleive food is included with renting the room and the chef there is a well known one. Mmmmm! Great place for dates.
They emailed me all the info before our last shindig but I think I deleted it. I'll call and have them send it to me again.

I could possibly make March 19th if I can ask my friend to drive me. My hubby soon starts Sundays/Mondays off and won't be off that day. I don't have a car when he works.

Okay. What part of town are you in anyway? I'm out west near Sun City. Seems like most of the others are out in the Mesa area.

I have heard of a place where humans do battle in a ring of Jell-O.

I'm always the one out where no one else lives. That's why I haven't made any friends here. My friend of 14 years had to move from another state for me to have a friend here (after 7yrs of being here).

I live near the Metro Center.....I can never remember...something "West valley". I'm horrible with compass directions. I go by lefts & rights and by landmarks.

If I know about a week in advance, I could probably get my friend to drive me. She lives in Chandler.

P.S. - Anyone know of someone in my area who'd be available to babysit M-F for a 9yr old? Or any suggestions? I posted at the azfamily.com classifieds, already.

Sorry, can't help on the baby-sitting front.

But if you need a ride to a shindig, you're on my way.

Hmm... let's see if I can make my signature in fancy italics.

Have you got a place picked out yet? If it's on the East side again then the three of us could have a Browncoat carvan.

Bill Johnson's Big Apple

16810 N 19 Av, Phoenix
or
7322 W Bell Rd, Glendale
or
3101 W Indian School Rd, Phoenix

I'm leaving out the east side locations 'cuz it's time Annie got a little break on driving.

I can hardly wait for March to get here!
