I have received FTP info from Haken, and have uploaded my video. So until Haken has had an opportunity to review and post the video and info, I have used the YouSendIt service. Here is the link...

http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3SDY1ATPN49VG01ZE15R6BDKRZ

I will re-upload the file once a day until it has a more permanent home.

Enjoy, and feel free to E-mail me at Pangaea_films@Verizon.net.

Thanks to ZAPHODB for the info.

Serenity is .wmv format. It was made in Adobe Premiere 6.5 and compiled using Huffyuv v2.1.1. Normally I would use VirtualDubMod to compress the file into Xvid format however I decided to use Movie Maker 2 and compress it into a .wmv for those who do not have Xvid codec’s.

The frame size: 640x480
Length: 4:52
Bit Rate: 2059

OMG!!!!

This is the single best Firefly Video I have ever, and I mean ever seen, your timing was perfect, the effects were awesome, how the heck did you do the THX/BLUE SUN THING. That Rocked!!!!!!

There are a whole lot of Firefly music videos out there, and their creators need to Download your video to see how they are supposed to be made.

PLEASE MAKE MORE!!!!!!

Don't be a human being, be a human doing.

Well I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm. The opining title was quite simple; I used Photoshop to make the stills and premiere to layer the audio from the THX sequence.

I'll post the third Yousendit file, as soon as it uploads.

Thanks for the praise.

I signed up to this site because of this video man, I have seen luminousity’s version of Serenity, and I tell you what, either you haven’t seen it, or you haven’t downloaded this video because it’s about ten times better. I’ve been a Firefly fan from the beginning and I have seen a whole mess of FF Music Videos, and this is the best.

Great video. I love that song and it is an excellent choice for a video.

Well done.

Now that there was a mighty sweet video! Someone's got a good processor. :) I've seen another video done to that song, but the Blue Sun opener and the transitions/timing was a lot cooler in yours. Keep up the awesome work. I constantly hear songs I want to make more vids to. It's just a matter of finding the time.

Wow..I enjoyed Serenity alot. It must take some time to make these and this Firefly/music lover appreciate's the work you put in.

I'd love to see a fanvid with Eric Clapton's Runnin on Faith. Maybe some Stevie Ray Vaughn...somethin' with a southern bluesy feel (slow or fast). Wish I had the know how.

Nice Video, it had that ethnic yet rock feel to it which I think really suited Firefly.

Two criticsms are:
1.) I think some of the shots should've been cut faster and the bits of still frame during the song replaced with action sequence. The song is slower paced, but the drums in it provide that outlet for a faster paced edit job.

2.) Try mix the shots up a little. In the begining was alot of Out of Gas footage for example, which started to lead me to believe that you only had a couple of vids to work with, or were trying really hard to conserve shots. I think it should've been mixed up a little more just to broaden it.

All in all, it was still a nice video, the best quality and sound I've seen so far and it helped make up for some of the things I didn't like.

Now if I could get my hands on Adobe Premire, or steal Avid Xpress from school, I think I'll be good :)

If you're serious about making videos, I can help you with just about everything you need. To be honest this was one of the least time consuming videos I've ever made, I wanted to keep this one simple because the point of it all is to honor Firefly and not myself. E-mail me at Pangaea_Films@Verizon.net and I'll get you started with Movie Maker. However if you have Adobe Premiere 6.5, I'll show you how we professional posers do it.

That applies to anyone who reads this post.

(Especially ZAPHODB)

Read my post above, if you're interested in Fanvids, I can write a kicking tutorial, maybe I'll get started on that for future.

Okay now for your constructive criticisms...

1.) I chose Serenity because it stimulates the love of our favorite boat, not our favorite action sequences, action is easy. I tell tales.

2.) Once again, this was a story telling motif. The still shots that turned into video were in an essence memory come to life. What made the captain what he is?

The Battle of Serenity...

What is the name of our favorite boat?

I sincerely appreciate your kindness, and compliments.
I do hope this gives you a little more understanding of my process.

I love many of these fan vids, thanks to all that spend the time creating them, I applaud people's energy and creativity.

While we are on the subject of "how to's"... The one thing I've noticed that most people don't take advantage of is the ability to reverse the telecine and work at the same frame rate as the original footage was shot at; 24 frame per second (fps) progressive video, aka 24p.

You'll notice that many fan vids have kind of a herky jerkyness to the motion. This is because they are being edited at 30fps rather than the original 24, so artificial frames are being created where there isn't actually any temporal data. Whenever I edit movie or TV show footage, I inverse telecine the footage first. Depending on how the DVD was encoded and the software you use to rip the DVD you can sometimes extract it at it's original 24fps. Then you need to edit in a program that works at a native 24 fps. Since I'm a Mac user I would recommend either Final Cut Pro or Adobe After Effects (I'm 95% sure Vegas Video and Adobe Premiere for Windows support 24p editing). This will help smooth out the motion.

Again I'm not trying to criticize, I'm just providing info to help future editors. Maybe someday if I can find the time I'll create and post a tutorial.

I completely understand what you're saying and I get that. I personally prefer faster paced jobs, again, only my opinion. I'm in the middle of editing a documentry for my tech class, so I suppose I'm just extra antsy for faster paced jobs.

I've been making fanvids for about two years now on my Windows movie maker (since I just don't have the money nor computer capicity to upgrage) so I'm always looking at other people's techniques.

Well, well, educated folk. Glad to meet ya.

Here we go...

Technically the Firefly DVD's are 100% film which makes it's footage 23.976fps. If you are using Vegas video this is not a problem... if you are using Adobe Premiere (Like I am) however, it is a big problem as Premiere cannot easily edit 23.976fps. It can edit in 23.98fps but this mode has all sorts of synch issues and the final output is useless to everyone.
You can change it to 24fps and Premiere can edit 24fps fine so it's not all bad - it just requires a little more preparation in advance. Personally I prefer to edit at 29.97fps and I use AviSynch for my video and color conversions/corrections.

The video you watched is a bastardized version of the one I keep on my computer which boasts 92MB. It retains the original quality, fps as well as its 16:9 Aspect ratio.

The version that has been uploaded was resized in WMM2.

Duly note, this video only took me three days to make, perhaps I should have taken more time, but I was anxious for results.

One last thing...

AE is designed for producing motion graphics and for applying effects to existing footage (hence the name After Effects). AE is not a video editing utility like Adobe Premiere. As such, it doesn't replace your current video editing program, but rather it compliments it. While video editing software like Premiere is used for cutting up and joining clips together, AE is designed to take footage and add whatever your imagination can come up with.

and...

I know absolutely nothing about Final Cut Pro.

And I didn't take your post as a criticism, thanks for the info.
