CLARRY

Here are the details for Saturday February 5th.

We have the Johnson Bar all to ourselves in Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street from 7pm to 11pm

As its a private party under-18s are allowed (and OAPS for free if accompanied by both grandparents!!). Here's a link with a review:

http://www.pubs.com/chesec4.htm

To see the room look on this site and choose bars then "Johnson Bar" (why am I amused by Johnson? I think it's The Big Lebowski):

http://www.yeoldecheshirecheese.com/

And here's how to get there:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=531426&y=181193&z=0&sv=EC4A+2B
U&st=2&pc=EC4A+2BU&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf

As its a room to ourselves, we'll be able to hear anyone doing a quiz so if there are any takers go for it. I've written about 50 quizzes but they are all of a general/pub quiz type and not sci-fi. I can't really write one either because my knowledge of sci-fi doesn't extend much further than wanting to napalm Ewoks and remove them from existence.

Let me know if you're coming along.

I'm there, and looking for as many people as possible to help celebrate my ?????th birthday on the 6th.

General knowledge quiz is fine by me - I love doing quizzes, and please don't let the fact that I'm a member of MENSA put anyone else off doing the quiz!

I know the Cheshire Cheese very well, it's the oldest continuously running pub in London, in fact in England I believe. I also work in the legal profession, and it's directly opposite the Law Courts, so I've been there a few times.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 5th.

Claz,

Very sorry, I wanted to be there but my wife now has to be out for the weekend so I'm home with the kids.

If it were just my eldest I'd bring her along but I don't think the little ones would get much out of it.

I'm sure all will have a good time, I'll be thinking of you all.

Any browncoats from Nottingham here? They tend in that fair city to bang on about how old their public house tradition is, and Ye Olde Jerusalem was certainly dusty enough last time I checked.

Always curious to find new old pubs...

As this thread has been inactive for a while, I'm just checking that the London Shindig is still on for 5th February, to help me celebrate my birthday???

I think I'll come - assuming I can organise it. I won't know anyone but its fun to meet random people. It just happens that I'm in London on business on Friday and Monday so this is an excuse to stay there over the weekend.

Anyone fancy doing touristy things on Saturday or Sunday? I'd like to go to the Science Museum and maybe some shopping too.

Shindig is definitely on. I was going to post a reminder tomorrow.

Quiz is organised, might even be a prize for first and last place.

Guess I know which prize I'll win then!!

Is there going to be a special prize for me and the other person who are having our birthday that weekend??

I'll try and line up a male companion for you.

Can people try and let me know if they're coming along?

I'll try and remember to bump this to the top next week.

Hey, y'all !!!!!!!

If you're going to Starfury read this:

"As many of you may have been reading on the internet, Universal
have
been conducting a series of test screenings of an advance print of
SERENITY to gauge audience reaction to the film.

At 6:30pm on Tuesday 8th February, Universal will be showing
SERENITY
for the first time outside of the US at a cinema in central London.

It is not a complete version of the film. The music score has yet to
be done, and the bulk of the special effects have yet to be
completed. It may also undergo further re-edits or changes between
now and the final release in September.

Chris Buchanan, the producer of SERENITY, and Michael Boretz, Joss
Whedon's assistant, thought it would be cool to let British
Browncoats have an incredible opportunity to see SERENITY a full 8
months prior to release!

They have kindly asked Universal to make a number of tickets
available exclusively to STARFURY to distribute to FIREFLY Fans.

So if you've booked to attend STARFURY: SERENITY, and you'll be able
to get to central London by 6:30pm on Tuesday 8th February, you
could
end up seeing SERENITY!

If you are a ticket holder for STARFURY: SERENITY and whish to go to
this screening, please e-mail me at SeanHarry@aol.com requesting
tickets. Please let me know your ticket number for STARFURY:
SERENITY
(it'll be strictly one film ticket per attendee).

Alternatively you can phone me on 07930 319 119 anytime between 10am
to 6pm Monday through Friday.

If any tickets are still available on Wednesday then we will make
them available for those who have not booked to attend STARFURY:
SERENITY as well."

I'm definitely coming, by the way.

Two quick questions Clarry -

1) Is there anything you have to say to get into the room? Will the pub have bouncers stopping random people coming up?

2) Is there food there or should we eat before coming?

*looks vaguely nervous*

I've only been posting here (and not very much) for a couple of days, would I be an unwelcome intruder?

I went to university there for four years and they do tend to go on about how historical their pubs are. Ye Olde Trip is trumpeted as the oldest there, but there is actually another, lesser known (lesser know to the extent that I can never remember its name) that was built the same year. And it's cheaper.

Two quick answers NikNak:

1) No bouncers. Not needed. The room is upstairs tucked out of the way. Very "gentleman's club". And anyway, I can give a nasty chinese burn.

2) Eat before you come.

Remember that it's the Johnson Room. If you end up in the Johnson Grill/Carvery there will be food, but another private party.

Hey, KittyKat

You're never unwelcome around fellow Browncoats!

I can't be there unfortunately but Clarry and the others will take care of you, they're all good people.

Stay shiny!

Hey, guys. I'm new to the U.K. (here from America to live). I can't make this shindig, but I would like to come to the next one. I'll also be at the test screening on Tuesday. Hope I get to meet some of you -- I hardly know anyone in England!

KittyKat and Saffy - Everyone is always welcome. I've only met up once with the "official" crowd, but since have shared a few drinks with people I got to know on that one evening. London is only lonely if you don't grasp the place by the horns and wrestle it to the ground.

Jolly good fun on Saturday Clarry. Congratulations for organising a splendid shindig. It was a lovely pub, great room, very olde worldly with a marvellous view of knickerbox.

Lively company, lots of alcohol a couple of hooligans in the corner, great quiz & cake. What more can you ask for?
