CYBERSNARK

So, I just made a batch of Christmas cookies (to impress a certain blonde Kaylee-type who gave me cookies), and my thoughts turned to Firefly.

Somehow my mind couldn't resist the image of Jayne (in a "Kiss the Cook" apron) tooling around Serenity's kitchen, flour and eggshells all around, River and/or Kaylee lurking about stealing bites of cookie dough whenever Jayne's back was turned. . .

Just thought I'd share.

BADGERSHAT

... slapping Mal's hand with a wooden spoon, growling "Get outta my gorram kitchen 'fore I turn Vera on ya!"

And, of course, in classic sitcom style, there's some secret recipe that gets passed own through the Cobb family, he introduces the crew to it for a special occasion, they love it, Mal contracts with a really fancy restaurant/caterer on Ariel to deliver 5,000 of whatever it is, Jayne says "it can't be done that fast," the crew steals the recipe and works overtime to meet the deadline, the entire ship gets covered in flour and burnt cookies, Mal gets into a fistfight with the head cook on Ariel, Inara rolls her eyes and tells the head cook that she'll personally pay for the breached contract, but not to push it because she knows his liquor license is expired and does he want the Alliance storming his restuarant, no he doesn't, Wash takes them out of the world, the theme song rolls, grr argh, 20th Century fox fanfare, and finally a bad McDonald's commercial...

MALICIOUS

(Mal-Licious rolls eyes at Jefe)

What kind of cookies, C-snark? They smell really good.

And why the heck did my hand get smacked with the spoon, I wonder?

Good news is, sounds like both you and your 'Kaylee' got your cookies. Why not just bask in the glow, "and maybe... smoke a cigarette?" (name that movie)

The original "Police Academy", perhaps?

MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."

Give the man a cigar! And not one of those Clinton Claros neither...

In an otherwise fairly forgettable movie series, George Gaynes' attempt to stay on the topic of his speech while a 'Companion' works him over from beneath the podium (complete with his deep basso running up the scale to tenor, and culminated by the line in question) was the one of, if not the funniest moment of the 'franchise'. (NB: That was one sentence! Woo-hoo!)

On the whole, the "Police Academy" series was an exercise in low humor; but that one scene sticks in the memory, somehow...

Speechlessly,
