Hey. Just watching the third season of 24 on DVD in preparation of the fourth, and I was wondering if there are any 24 fans here as well?

I have a theory about FOX. FOX is the closest thing to a network version of HBO. They usually more inclined to do shows that are outside of the ordinary, cookie cutter fare we see, and do more daring shows like HBO. What keeps them behind are their commitment issues. For every innovative show that survives and thrives, there are about five or six other shows that through mismanagement died. 24 is in the former and FIREFLY is in the latter. So while I am a rabid FIREFLY fan, I'm an even more rabid 24 fan. And just curious if there are any 24 fans here.

Actually, some actors had shown up on both 24 and FIREFLY. The guy that played Rick on Day 1 was the Mudder who took the bullet for Jayne in "Jaynestown". The guy who played Alan York/Kevin Carroll in Day 1 was the Alliance guy that was trying to track down Tracy in the unaired "Message". But the biggest 24/FIREFLY connection is with Ginna Torres. In Day 3, she was Julia Miliken, the wife of David Palmer's one time political mentor now adversary. And her role in 24 is a complete reverse from Zoe on FIREFLY. When I saw her on 24, I didn't even register her from FIREFLY until I checked her profile on imdb.com. That to me is when you have a real actress. When you see her in one thing, and then see her again and not recognize her and not make that connection until you're told about it.

Just as a little fun thing to keep going, I wonder what 24 would be like if Joss Whedon was a heavy creative influence. I imagine Cloe would be playing with plastic dinosaurs at her desk, Kim would be played by Summer as this babbling psychic savant, and I imagine Jack would have more a sense of humor. I think in a comparison of tortured souls between Mal and Jack, Jack would win hand's down. And Jayne would probably bow at the man's feet.

I liked the first season but, it lost my interest halphway through the second. Why isn't Kim dead?

That and Fox pissed me off. I wonder how that happened.

hmmmmm.

That'd be Richard Burgi, who was Womack. I actually remembered him straight off from The Sentinel

Yup, chalk me up as another 24 fan. The show's survival could possibly be put down to its success on DVD which was launched quickly enough that people could watch the entire first season before the second season launched, thus locking in a whole new audience. Ah, if only the same had been offered for Firefly (maybe a curtailed season as was then a run of 6 episodes planned, to be expanded if demand justified).

Apparently this is to be the final season of 24 so that means everyone, including Jack, is up for grabs. Let's hope that means Kim finally gets the horrible sticky end that she has been baying for since childhood. Preferably involving a cougar.

Actually, aside from Jack, most of the remaining cast members are gone, although there is the possibility if them showing up again.

And I seem to be in the minority of people who like Kim. Maybe because I'm biased towards Elisha Cuthbert, but I like Kim's character. To me, she's Greek tragedy personified. Heck, the reason I love 24 miles above ALIAS is because 24 has an air of grand tragedy to it that ALIAS doesn't.

I have a very long winded explanation of this akin to what Zoid sometimes write. If interested, let me know.

24 is actually just about the only show on tv that I watch every single episode of. It's the one that I will really, really watch if I end up having to tape it.

Although, I must say, Kim really irritates me. She's always getting ahold of someone's gun then you see it shaking in her hands then she kills somebody. Sheesh...

I missed the first season but caught the dvds and then watched the rest on tv.

It's just a really great show.
