THE CHOSEN ONE: Joss Whedon is staking his claim to another female superhero. Warner Bros. is on the verge of lassoing the Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind to write and direct the studio's long-gestating Wonder Woman feature film, TV Guide Online has learned. The almost-done deal comes just two months after Whedon announced that he was getting out of the TV biz to focus on making movies, beginning with his forthcoming Firefly flick, Serenity. Meanwhile, there's no word on who Whedon may tap to fill Lynda Carter's satin tights, but I'm going to go out on a limb and throw Sarah Michelle Gellar's name into the mix. (Yes, this is how rumors get started, folks.)

EMBERS

I would rather see Joss working on his own projects
we do need two more Firefly movies...
we need some made-for-TV movies of the BtVS/Ats verse
and I understand that Joss has been working on
a brand new screen play not based on anything from the past...
but I suppose if Joss wants to do Wonder Woman
(errr maybe that isn't the best way of putting that...)....

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Knowing how Joss loves to multi-task, I don't think he would be lax in his handling of all things Serenity if he were to tackle the Wonder Woman film.

I will go on record as saying Sarah Michelle Gellar being Wonder Woman is sacrilege and should never be uttered again.

I like Summer's suggestion of Gina for Wonder Woman. If not her, than Morena would look great in the Wonder Woman outfit.

(Mmmmmmmm.......Morena.)

CYBERSNARK

Charisma's voice just doesn't sound right (yeah, I mentally attach voices to comic book characters. Bite me). It's just too light and girlish. Wonder Woman's voice should be fairly husky and Commanding; a booming, brassy roar befitting an Amazon Warrior. Whenever Charisma has tried to do commanding, it comes out more like a dagger than a broadsword (does that make any sense at all?).

Morena would be a good choice, but my age-old favourite is Marina (Counsellor Troi) Sirtis. Most importantly because (although British) she can do a Grecian accent (lest we forget that Diana Prince is Greek, not American like every other hero in every other American movie).

GORRAMREAVERS

It was my understanding that Joss had kinda had it with Charisma. It might be wrong to think this but I dont think they were into having her be pregnant during season 4 of Angel. It handcuffs the writers and perhaps Joss wrote her out of the show for that reason. I know he likes to keeps his actors 'in line'. I always thought he killed off Jenny Calender because the actress was very religous and perhaps refused to do/say some things Joss had written for her. So season 5 of Angel....NO Charisma.

That said, she looked GREAT for her 1 epi last year. Physicaly she might be the perfect fit...im just not sure her acting is strong enough to carry a movie.

How about Carrie Anne Moss?

Wonder Woman is my hero. I'm just glad they have stopped throwing sandra Bullock's name around with the film. She's just not WW. Now Gina, that could work. In fact, I quitelike the idea. Where do I have to go to sign up as an Amazonian extra?

I doubt Charisma would be involved, as she was essentially fired from Angel (the polite term is 'let go'). Sarah HAS mentioned she'd like to do wonderwoman way back before this news came up. I remember reading this on the Babble Board along with little rumors of David Boreanez doing Superman (which are doubtfull, but cool none the less).

to AICN where herc is speculating on who should play Wonder Woman. His sign-off is definitely Jayne-like.

It is very possible that Joss could multi-task between Wonder Woman and Serenity 2. Tim Minear had brought up that he'd like to be involved with the sequel if it was greenlit, so he could help Joss write it, and direct it himself! It'd just be like another awesome ep of Firefly!! But in THEATERS! Sorry...geek out.

I'm sure Joss could do something er..wonderful with Wonder Woman but haven't we just about tapped out the superhero genre for this go around? I mean for every one good comic-inspired movie there's about five flops. It just seems we've been pounded on by so many recently that It's hard to get excited anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see this movie, just not for about five years.

I have to second this. Frankly the superhero genre has been buggered to death. We still have another regurgitation of batman to endure.

Let it rest for a while.

I'd kinda like to see Joss tackle something new - for him anyway.... Wonderwoman would be OK but y'know..... Old ground.....

THATSASQUATCH

I am a comics specialized geek, but I do think that Wonder Woman is fresh territory. Because the classic Wonder Woman story has never been told in ANY medium. Comics, text, TV, cinema, there's never been a defining and classic version.

This is why Wonder Woman needs Mr. Whedon, and this is why I'm afraid it'll be a full time job getting it right.

What is Wonder Woman's great struggle? Who is her great nemesis? She doesn't have a compelling narrative built into her history. It will by Joss Whedon's job to create this.

So the writing a great story (and getting past the producers) will be very hard. There's no agreed upon story to start with.

Casting will be hard. You'll need someone with massive screen presence. 90% of current actresses (ie SM Gellar) are too dainty and girly. Also, she needs to look intimidating in a bustier.

I hope he's got the time and energy to get all of his projects right. I do suspect he'll have a different take than everyone else. He's never been SFX driven.

PS I think Selma Hayek would be perfect.

Yeah, all those years of priest training and you get taken out by one bounty hunter.
