I say U-Day is the December 20, since that’s the day us Browncoats lost (When the final episode aired.).

Following that train of thought, maybe Independent's Day (Independence Day?) should be September 20th, when The Train Job first aired. Or should it be (tentatively) September 30th, when the BDM hits the screen?

Wow - September 20th to December 20th - only four months elapsed time. Amazing.......

America loves a winner!

Well, if we go by when the shows aired, U-Day was celebrated in The Train Job, which was shown on Sept 20. Not that any of that has to mean very much. Clearly it could be any day, and The Train Job wasn't even suppose to be aired first anyways.

I've never heard of there ever having been an 'I-Day', nor exactly what it would celebrate. Had the Browncoats WON, it might have been the day they declared their independence... like happened w/ one of my favorite countries.

We actually "celibrated" uni-day a few months back on Sept 20 at this board. There's a thread about it 'round here somewhere...

Actually the spelling for Independents' Day is correct because it is the name I came up with for a Firefly Shindig over here in England which is being held on Febrary 26th at the Caxton Theatre in Grimsby (see other thread for further details).

The reference is different from "Independence Day" because it is a day belonging to the Independents, the Browncoats. It is not a celebration of Independence because the Browncoats failed to achieve that in the mythos of the show.

I already run an event called Slayerfest and wanted another name for the events that relate to Firefly and was planning on using ID1, 2, 3 etc. if ID1 proves to be a success. The thought about using it as the name for a Browncoat holiday celebration came from someone else.

Just wanted to clear that up! Sorry if it comes across as teaching a lesson in grammar!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I agree w/ DarkJester that the premiere date of the BDM should be the date of Independents Day.

I also think that Gunrunners suggestion of December 20th as U-Day is a good one.

Of course you are right slayerfest - but on this side of the Atlantic, it's a bit ironical, seeing as Independance Day is already a national holiday in the US. Just trying to work in a 2nd pun!

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

Dec 20 might be significant, but I think it's proximity to Christmas, Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc. is too close, and those of us with family (that are not FF fans; yeah black sheep everywhere LOL) might be a bit too busy with other things.

Therefore, I suggest we make U-day April 22 (because once again the Alliance places its boot on our necks and the BDM is moved from that date; and if you will allow...it is Earth Day, and in 2517, it might be Earth-that-was Day (E-Day?), which means in some backward fashion, the Alliance was probably responsible for Earth's demise. *heh heh*) and it is a Spring event (Fall in other parts of the globe) and Sept. 30 is Independent's Day or simply I-day (because this is the release of the BDM and it is close to the original air date of Sept 20, so we have risen again!) and it is a Fall event (Spring elsewhere).

This allows for more temperate climate which generally leads to larger attendance for events (less foul weather to contend with, can do things out-of-doors such as a Swhatfight by your own Cadrie Pond *g*). Additionally it puts several months between the two allowing for people to coordinate travel and spending money (when applicable).

That is just my 2 credits worth. :)

What happens when you get to ID4? I think that is copyrighted by the company that made the movie 'Independence Day'...

As I stated above, maybe I-day would be good?

Can't honestly say I am worried about "ID 4" being a problem with copyright as I don't think I would be infringing it at this end by running an event with that short title. It would still be "Independents'Day 4" in the long form.

If they wanted to get litigious they could hunt me down like a dog for even calling my events "Independents'Day" as it is VERY similar to their title but the events are run to raise funds for charity they would at best be able to issue a cease and desist order. Its not like we are depriving anyone of their earnings.

Its also worth noting that Fox are aware of the event and they own the copyright to both Firefly and Independence Day (ID4) and have been remarkably helpful thus far even providing prizes.

All of this is pretty academic anyway, as I would need to GET to ID 4 and the way ticket sales are looking for ID 1, we won't even get to ID 2 without the major support of Browncoats and at present that support is not showing.

I was just curious. :)

I am impressed that Fox has been helpful to your event.

Best wishes on a successful event! Wish I could be there.
