Today's edition of TV Guide Insider has an article on Firefly with a few quotes from the man himself (mostly of the "Pleaseplease watch" variety). One interesting fact from the article: Fox just commissioned three more scripts from Joss.

Sweet! Perhaps the situation is not so very grim after all!

It sounds like Fox likes the show, or they would have already cancelled it. I think they'll be patient with low ratings IF they start to show signs that they are heading in the right direction. But they still don't have much time to do that.

Keep the momentum going!
Write your letters to Fox, keep bugging your friends who aren't watching yet, and buzz buzz buzz online.

Fox is still behind this show. They've advertised Firefly throughout the World Series (aside from commercial spots during the game, they had the actors playing Mal and Inara in the audience for one of the games in S.F. and played the theme from Firefly during one of the "fan cam" moments).

Now's a great time to let Fox know that you like what you are seeing and that you want more!

Huh. I don't suppose anyone has a tape of this? Or remembers further details?

Found a couple more references. Sounds like there wasn't much to it:

Yo. Gotta admit, it was a bit weird when they did their patented "quick cut to a couple of stars of a Fox show sitting in the stands just like we told them to" stunt and there was Morena Baccarin (accompanied by Nathan Fillion, I believe) wearing a baseball cap and looking like a normal person instead of a registered Companion.

So every year during the World Series, FOX sits the stars of its shows in prime seats behind the home dugout, and makes a point of pointing the camera at them repeatedly. Tonight must be _Firefly_ night -- so far I've seen Mal and the Companion (I have *got* to learn those characters' names!), and during the "Fan Cam" feature they played the _Firefly_ theme in the background. I've also seen several promos for the show in between innings.

I hope this means that FOX has finally decided to back the show a bit ...

On an unrelated original-airing note, however:

Everything about the show was new and different to me. Sure, friends complained to me about the plot being eerily reminiscent of both Farscape and Star Trek (both of which I disagree with), but, I thought, did either of those shows have a piece of parchment that served as a bridge between the action and the commercial breaks? I think not.

I assume that would be a quick shot of the opening credits logo, but I don't remember seeing any commercial bumpers on the Versaphile copies of the episodes (must've been edited out.) Anyone know what sound/music accompanied them?
