Nother posting from Joss this was at Buffy.nu:

You guys are sweetumses. If I was here to rouse you to action, I’d be wearing pants. I mean, using... rhetoric... (note to self: delete pants thing.) The fact is, I’m crushed, because I’m so anxious for you all to see what we’ve done. I want the world to know that Nathan Fillion is the next Harrison Ford (Well, he IS). I want them to see how amazing Summer Glau is... not to mention the whole cast and Jack Green, the greatest DP in DP-land, everybody just did such good work it almost makes me wish I’d written a coherent script! Or, I mean... um, hey, no pants! (Note to self...) So there you have it, or me, disappointed and impatient. But I really do believe in this studio. They supported this project since before I’d even thought up the SURPRISINGLY COHERENT script (nice save!) and they’ve been very up-front about their scheduling and marketing stratgies. so I stand with their decision, but, as Abe Simpson would say: "They’re in for the frowning of a lifetime!"

How’s that cube coming? Gleamy?

And this from JoBlo.com:

Quote:

I think the most amount of hate mail I've ever gotten since I started writing for JoBlo.com some 4 years ago was when I questioned the SERENITY movie. Boy the fans came out of the woodworks on that one to rip me a new one. In my defense, I think my commens were overblown as I wasn't criticizing the quality of the show (I haven't even seen it), just curious about the business decision to base a big-budget sci-fi flick on a shortlived TV series. I have now learned through a series of e-mails from "Firefly" fans that there is a huge, devoted audience to the franchise and that, like STAR TREK, successful films can often come out of cancelled TV shows. I also learned that I'm a stupid piece of @!#$ with %$&* for brains. At least according to those e-mails. Anyway, bad news for that devoted bunch of "Firefly" fans. Writer/Director Joss Whedon has announced that the release of the film has been pushed back from April to September. Whedon explains it by saying, "April got crowded with a lot of titles aimed at a similar demographic, and the studio decided September was a clearer corridor for the film to make the kind of impact it should." Sounds like a similar decision Paramount made this summer with SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW and that seemed like a smart one. Unfortunately it just means a longer wait for the fans. To pass the time, I invite them to further fill my inbox with angry e-mails. But take it easy this time Whedonites - I got nothin but love for ya.

I particularly like the email bit. We are mighty.

Don't think of it as having to make new shirts, rather think of it as how the originals are now a conversation piece since they have the original release date on them.

Well.. heres to hoping a bomb like Gigli is showing at the same time , so that those avid weekend moviegoers are driven to see the BDM. I can see it now..Throngs of new Browncoats streaming from the theatres only to get in line to see it again immediately afterwords hehehehe.

I expect the series DVD sales to go up dramatically after the BDM release!

5 more months ain't so bad. It's better then hearing the words.."It's not being released at all".

No problem - I completely understand. I was uprooted from Washington (state) about 12 years ago and haven't been able to get out of the Midwest since. (And why, exactly, do they call it the Midwest?!? )

I'm in Indianapolis, of course - isn't everyone? My wife and I just bought a (99-year-old) house in the Irvington area, actually.

CYBERSNARK

People, people. . . Let's get some perspective here. The show was sabotaged from the get-go. Cancelled, abandoned by every other network that could've bankrolled it. The sets were struck, the cast and crew went their separate ways. . .

And we brought it back. We got a DVD phenomenon, we got a movie deal, we got just about everything we could reasonably hope for.

Now the movie's been delayed.

In the words of our immortal captain: "We're still flyin'."

May not be much, but it's enough.

Now then, lets get on 'Versal's back about those trailers, merchandising, and animated DVD prequel. . .

Hell, look at it this way; we might actually get a Serenity trailer riding along on Lucas's big CGI-sequence of a film. Wouldn't that be shiny (and have the added benefit of making the LucasEmpire seem all manner of foolish)?

Alright Browncoats, listen up... I said stop whining,... no, you,... will you all please SHUT UP!

There, that's better.

Okay, we're all disappointed, no denying that. We all wanted to line up and put down our platinum and make Fux eat a big slice of humble pie. That'll still happen. Just not when we thought.

What everyone is missing about this is we're better off premiering in September. It's after the summer. Everybody's back home, looking for something to do after blowing oodles of cash doing everything all summer long. A movie is just about right. Plus, with the summer blockbusters out of the way there'll be more room for our BDHs to shine on the screen.

Another thing, there was another thread that said Independant's day should be April 22nd 'cause of the original premiere date and September 7th should be U-day because that was the day Firefly premiered on Fux and that allowed Fux to screw over our BDHs. Well that's just wrong-headed. Here's why. Without Firefly premiering on Fux we wouldn't have had a chance to experience the magic of Serenity. Sure, it didn't go the way Joss and us wanted, but that's life. Sometimes it don't roll the way you want. You just got to roll with it and wait for your chance to rise up.

I say the release date in September is gonna be our Independant's day.

No power in the 'verse can stop us.

We have to think of what is best for the show... and while I'm not sure that pushing it THAT far back is the best thing, giving it a clear field free of competitors is a good thing. I honestly don't think that Serenity will do as well in the midst of all the summer blockbusters (something Universal recently learned from The Chronicles of Riddick).

Moving it forward three weeks would mean the movie would have to be completed at least three weeks earlier, which might be a major problem.

I couldn't find much I would label as competition past mid-July, BUT there are a LOT of films on the schedule (a lot of sure-to-be crap films, sure, but still a crowd).

Then it just comes down to just a four to six week period and I'm not going to second-guess the studio for that.

Something else to look at would be what else Universal has coming out and when. I have no idea there and have a paper to write, so not looking it up right now, but that's gonna be a factor.

Aw man! I'm gonna be in college by then! You know what that means? No money. This sucks! This Spril, I was planning on going to see it like a ton of times, but by then, I'll be just another poor college kid with hardly the money to buy one ticket. Seeing Tenacious D on the line up made me smile for like half a second, but this just sucks. I understand why they're doing it and everything, but there are a lot of fans out there that would go to see it regardless what else is playing. Now I don't get to even go with my family in my home town because I'll be far far away in college. I still think we might have been better off in April. I have faith in Joss, & I have faith in George Lucas. Star Wars will suck. I think there'll be a lot of folks exiting the cinema, next spring, searching desperately for something to get that rancid taste out of their mouths. Just a bit, really, and only 'cause of the monster promo budget SW will have.

Well, personally, I still think that Star Wars Ep Three would have been a concern. It's SW and you just know that people are gonna turn out to it, if only out of curiosity to see how bad it is. (Myself included among those numbers...) Perhaps pushing the release date was a good thing... though the extended wait is very bitter, I'll admit.

Still, it does give me more time to get an Alliance naval officer's uniform ready. I've never gone to a film in costume before, and it should be a treat to do so.

PALADIN

The delay is sad news indeed. I take heart in the fact the studio seemed genuinely pleased with the film, despite remaining reatively free of the digital effects. That says something. We can only hope this is for the best and keep on flyin'. Till then, keep telling your friends about Firefly. When you run out of friends.....just tell everyone else.

I never liked the April release date for Serenity. I think September is much better. It was never going to do blockbuster type numbers (but would have done pretty well). Now with no competition in September, they should do very well. Now it has a chance which it didn't before. Yes we've gotta wait, but I love the idea of showing a Serenity trailer in front of Ep III. :)

No wonder my HSX stocks for Serenity has been falling..

Yeah, this slight drop wiped out 90% of my lifetime profits. I must be being punished for not visiting Fireflyfans.net in several weeks.

after a painfull stunned silence on reading this news I continued to read responces and still saddened but hopefull. I hate patience but patient I will strive to be. I know no matter what, the movie will be worth the wait. This gives me time to bring others into the fold. I will have to change some vacation time around. Maybe we can get that deal Joss has going with Dark Horse comics for the Serenity comic. This gives our BDH more chances to goto conventions to promote the BDM. Hint for anyone who has any connections with Creation entertainment. I'm going to the con in Seattle may 13-15 with the gold seating and would love to see the lovely ladies of Firefly/Serenity.
Well keep flying a little while longer
