TENTHCREWMEMBER

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

In another thread http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=7832 , people have been discussing calling April 22 "Independents' Day" Very cool idea, so it got me thinking, what day should be "Unification Day"? Our day of mourning and sticking it to the oppressive capitalistic alliance known as F*x. And then it hit me...the day it was first heard that Firefly would be cancelled! And then I realized, I am part of the "green" (first saw it on DVD) Browncoats and not the "veteran" (first saw it on the air) Browncoats so I have no clue what day that is.
Anyone know?

I think it would be cool to have not one, but TWO of our own "holidays". The first being the Unification Day where we remember our fallen Big Damn Heroes and what the Alliace done to 'em. The second being Independents' Day where we celebrate rising again and sticking it to the Alliance for years to come!

Thoughts? Comments? Smartass remarks?

The trouble with using the day Objects in Space aired is that it wasn't the last episode broadcast. That honor belongs to the pilot,Serenity, which first aired in the U.S. on 12/20/02. I'd call that a strike against it for our purposes, too gorram close to Xmas for comfort. Besides, finally airing the pilot, however late, was not a bad move on F*x's part; at the time I was rutting grateful.

We can keep the connection, though, by using the day the pilot should have aired, 09/20/02, which is when The Train Job was broadcast. Think about it: Not leading with the pilot was F*x's first major rutup for the series. An appropriate day to show them what they mean to us.

I second Rocketjock's proposal of 9-20. Plus, it's the day after "Talk Like a Pirate Day." I can continue to talk like that for Uni day!

I can go with 9/20, still symbolic like you say.

Plus, you have TLAP Day on the 19th, as stated, and (to be selfish) the 24th is my birthday, usually a gaming Con somewhere close then too, so I could really have a fun week in September having great fun!

I agree 12/20 would be too close to the holidays.

I think it would be great. September 20 every ruttin' one of us Browncoats pays tribute to Firefly on Unification Day (boycotting F*x & their sponsors, getting drunk on "quiet drinks", etc.) and on April 22 all the Browncoats in the 'Verse celebrate (effectively we rise again!) and enjoy Independents' Day. I think it would be awesome! Let's start a gorram plan!

September is a good long time away from April, too, which nicely spaces out U-day and I-day.

My two cents:
I personally like 12/20 because we can do it this year, and because boycotting F*x primetime programming so close to Christmas will be more noticeable to their sponsors.

A great idea, by the way. I say strike while the iron is hot, not wait for 10 months. I'm tired of waiting a year for stuff: first the movie, now 'Sticking It To F*x Day'...

If y'all still want 9/20, I'll go it alone on 12/20, the anniversary of the day that Firefly disappeared from TV forever (*sniffle*). A dark day in my life, indeed. I lived in mixed denial and fading hope for the ensuing 2 months, until it became conclusively apparent that Firefly had perished. As a consequence, I'll never forget the evening I last saw Serenity and her wonderful cast on TV. Merry Christmas from F*x! 12/20: That's my U-Day.

I recommend, as a proper celebration, that we watch Firefly DVDs on the 20th, and forsake all network TV, since they're all culpable for not picking us up.

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
I'm as patient as the next guy, really I am, but all this waiting for the other shoe to drop is making me a little antsy. Especially since I've got both shoes in the air, waiting for 4/22 and 9/20.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I agree w/ Zoid that if this is going to happen, it should happen in December. 12/20 would be perfect. What better day to mourn U-Day than the day that Fox took our beloved show off the air?

Why don't we just do the ignoring-network-tv thing on 12-20-04, just to see what happens and THEN we can make Sept 20th a UniDay celebration each year? That will make both Zoid AND myself happy and if we're happy, that's all that matters, right?

Right? Hello?

To All The Little People Who Have Made Us Possible:

I agree totally with Mmmm-a-lishy-goodness: Making her and me happy should be everyone else's first priority. Please us now!

And remember, like a Chinese meal, it's not over 'til we both get our cookies...

Oh, wait... You were talking about the U-Day thingy... It's just so hard to concentrate on the details, when it should be all about Me!

Ummm, I mean Us!

Egocentrically,

zoid

I suddenly have the urge to become an ACK-TOR!
