How do I retrieve an old thread from several months ago?

Help!

First, I think you need an idea of which forum it was in (General Discussions, etc.). Select it over on the left

either "VIEW MORE THREADS..." at the bottom of the thread list for General Discussions, or one of the "OTHER FORUMS" links below that. You'll see a list of the 50 most recently replied-to threads in that forum. At the bottom of that list, take the link that says "READ THREADS THAT HAVE BEEN ARCHIVED...". That list appears to go back to the beginning of time. If you know an approximate date, you can use the dates on the right. Or you can use your browser's "Edit; Find (On This Page)..." function to search the thread titles.

If there is a more general (or multi-forum) search function, I'm not aware of it (and would like know about it).

I've had good luck googling the name of the thread, (or as close as I can recall,) along with the username of someone who posted in it. You'll get good results.
