I'll say it here and now, I never cared for the original Battlestar Galactica. Only saw maybe 1 or 2 episodes, and never got into it at all. Frankly, I found it to be very cheesy.

However, as many of you are aware, a new take on Galactica has been made: A two parter miniseries of two hours each! I originally watched it because Zoic was doing the FX, and I had heard of a cameo by Serenity, which it indeed has:

But while watching for this cameo, I found an absolute gem of a show. Ever since Firefly, there has been a huge void in terms of decent sci-fi; they've all been there only for the pretty visuals, or all had cardboard characters. There was just nothing decent.

But finally, a show with the kind of depth that Firefly once had. I have literally watched the miniseries about 5 or 6 times within the course of a week, and am anxiously awaiting the full series coming in january.

So, folks, go and check this gem out when you can. I promise that you will NOT be disappointed.

I was but a young pup when the original Battlestar aired and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Back in those days you took what you could get!

How dare you put POO on one of the classics!

I like the new Battlestar as well though the human replica theme is CRAP! and Starbuck as a girl...pfft!

There's no question that the new Battlestar is a very different show from the original.

IMO, comparing the two is pointless----you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of the new one if you treat it as a new entity, which simple happens to tip its hat to the original now and then.

There's a great scene in episode 1x03 (it's started in the UK already) where New Apollo is talking to Old Apollo.

I think the folks giving it bad reviews are the fans of the original. I can understand that, since I'd probably bash a redo of Firefly 20 years down the line ;)

Yea, I've been watching the series episodes too, even though they officially come out in January here in North America. My only option is to download :-\ But I pay for my cable bill, and I will be watching when they finally come out here.

I've noticed the 'hat tipping' as well ;) "Chrome toasters", bringing back the original apollo, etc.

I'd thought we only had to wait until 2005

I thought it was funny that the lastname of the actress playing the female Starbuck is named Sackoff.

If I wrote that into a short story, someone would tell me that it was too contrived.

Still going to get a kicking from the Fundamentalists. The What d'you mean, no Blue Sun vibe has already started. My guess is that it will be possible to draw some parallels between the TV and movie Serenity's since both are designed to introduce the 'verse; Lucky us, say I. I just hijacked the thread, sorry ... OT.

Bittorrent, my friend. http://suprnova.org

A good client for it is Azureus.

Thanks sneaker98,

Never used Bittorent before. Is it easy to use? Can you use dial-up with it?

Very easy to use, just install Azureus and let it go. Yes, you can use dialup, but you'll still only have a maximum of 5 kb/s or so.

http://suprnova.org

Then, hit the "search" button. type in "battlestar" as a search term, and you'll see a bunch of results. Click on one of them to download via azureus, it'll be automatic. You might get some error pop up, but it'll still work

Hmmm,

I not sure if the episodes I am seeing are original or new.. the naming/numbering convention does not seem to exist..

I am not gunna download 350MB on the chance it is what I want.. not on dial up..

/does that dance of joy to celebrate the uk getting this first :)

i'd heard a few people say good things about the mini series, and of course had seen the vidcaps of serenity's cameo, so when sky repeated the mini series in one marathon run just before the series premiered i decided to check it out and was very impressed. so far, the series has continued to live up to the standards it set.

it's not firefly, but it is still involving with some pretty decent storylines and the beginnings of some interesting plot arcs. and there's those stunning zoic special effects to give you that firefly feeling of reality. the human looking cylons, imho, open up a lot of possibilities ... ooops, nearly put a big spoiler in there, erm, anyway, definite possibilities from that. and the new starbuck, yeah she's female which is kinda wrong, but she kicks arse and is hot, so it's all good, same for the new boomer.

for anyone considering getting the torrents of it, i say do it. especially as the adverts get stripped out so it's even more engaging to watch.

I've only seen a couple episodes of the older show, and while I enjoyed it, I liked the miniseries a lot more. It's just a little bit deeper and darker. Plus it's got Zoic...

WARNING!
Episode 4 is a 2 parter. Download it but don't watch it unless you can stand cliffhanger endings!

The more I get to know people the more I like my dogs.
