Just seen the post re: product placement, and noticed that imdb is reporting Carter Burwell as the scorer for Serenity rather than Greg Edmondse.

I liked the Firefly score a lot, but if for whatever reason they have changed for the movie, Burwell is a good choice - has done the Coen brothers, many of Spike Jonze things and has an ability to do something new but not generic.

(plus there is a Firefly connection as he scored A Knight's Tale) - and shock horror! Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the movie.

If its right, and I'm googling as I type - its a small world...

Interesting....

I think moving away from the fanfare style horns and cellos scores that plague most blockbuster films is a wise decision.

Scores tend to be so intrusive these days. Lets hope the partnership of Joss and Carter works.

Apparently this was confirmed at DragonCon.

I liked his score to The General's Daughter which was an off-kilter action film.

Of the people that could replace Greg Edmonson on the film, I am glad it is Carter Burwell. While I would love for Edmonson to come back on board, I have enjoyed Burwell's music in the past, mainly via his Coen Brothers scores.

I wonder what the motives were?

Maybe Greg was unavailable and working on other projects....

I guess Carter and Joss have a past of working together so it makes sense...

I'd love to be a fly on the wall while they work and discuss the score for Serenity. That'd be a nifty DVD extra :)

I was hoping they'd keep Greg Edmondson, but then I thought of "Fargo" and "Rob Roy," two of my favorite scores.

Burwell is good and versatile.
