May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Ok Browncoats, just saw this over at the Serenity Movie boards:

http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com/serenity/index.html?fuseaction=for
um.viewtopic&t=5387

Seems a Browncoat sent an email to Universal inquiring about when we could expect to see the Serenity trailer in theatres. The reported response was January 14th of 2005 & it would debut w/ the Marvel Comics movie spin off "Elektra".

I have already seen the trailer several times that Adam was kind enough to show us at Dragon Con, but I wonder if that was the finished trailer or not.

I eagerly await the trailer in theatres. I might even go see Elektra just to see the trailer.

And why wouldn't you want to see Elektra? Jennifer Garner kicks ass! (And maybe watch Daredevil again too, just to see her kick Affleck's ass!)

ETA: Yay! Trailer! Sorry, I got distracted by kick-assiness.

If Adam's "trailer" is the same one shown by JW at Comic-Con (and later, Wizard World), that's really a teaser put together for a one-time only showing, and created by JW for that single purpose. That most definitely is not a proper trailer. Mind you, I can imagine Joss wanting final approval over the real trailer so that it doesn't reveal or mislead (too much).

I guess I am an anomaly because I have never been impressed w/ Jennifer Garner. She has acting talent, but I am not seeing the male fascination w/ her. She did a good job w/ the part of Elektra in Daredevil, but I think there were others that would have more closely fit the role.

I'm no big fan of Garner (in fact if anything, I dislike her). But if the Serenity trailer is going to come with Elektra, then I'm gonna be watching Elektra more than once :D

No, that wasn't the final trailer, that was confirmed somewhere, not sure by whom.

If you find any other movies that it will be attached to, let us know.

I'm not interested in seeing Elektra (the record company?? )

Adam's trailer was the same one shown @ Comic Con to the best of my knowledge.

I figured it would most likely not be the final one used in theatres.

I love Jennifer Garner, but I hated Daredevil and planned to avoid Elektra like plague, but hell, gotta show my support for our BDM, right?

Course, with my luck, I'll be running late that night, and not only will I miss the trailer, I'll have handed my $10.25 (I LOVE NYC!!) to an evil corporation for the privilege of seeing a crappy movie that I didn't want to see in the first place!

Out of interest as I don't know anything about these things why would Universal Pictures attach a trailer to a 20th Century Fox movie?

That is also the 'trailer' Joss pulled out and showed us in Chicago at the Wizard World con...
but Joss even said something at the time that it was made for San Diego when he didn't have a lot of footage to pick from...
so I was thinking he would definitely be redoing it for a proper trailer now that he has finished filming....

I can't wait!

PS thanks for the link!

I think it's very likely that the official trailer will also be on someplace like ifilm.com or apple.com or somesuch, so you won't need to waste... er... spend money on Elektra

Come on. you guys gotta work on the imagination. Find ANOTHER movie that starts 15 after Elektra. Sit through the previews of Elektra, after the trailer leave and go into your theater to watch a movie worth paying for.

I did this for both star wars trailers - since they were initially attached to crappy movies.

This will allow you to spend a quality $10 or so and still see the trailer in all its glory! Enjoy

ps - Garner is hot, can act (see Alias seasons 1-3), but will not be a blockbuster in the movies....Any guy who wouldnt want to be Ben A is a moron! He has landed Paltrow, Lopez, Garner etc.

It doesn't necessarily have to be from the same production company. It's like commercials. Sometimes you see adds for FOX or NBC on other networks (not often, but it happens). That's why a lot of production companies wait for a surefire "hit" and put their trailer where they know it's going to be seen.

BTW: That was in response to SimonF's query.

Why not a week or 2 earlier ? Seems like it would do MUCH more for the BDM if a trailer appeared on movie screens during the Christmas break.

Also in reply to SimonF and JusticeMcNasty, they tend to put trailers with movies that are closer to the same genres. So since Universal is calling it a "futuristic action-thriller" or some such, it will go with sci-fi or action-with-slight-fantasty-edge movies. Definitely not comedies or dramas.

I remember reading about fans paying full price to see just trailers or short films before the feature (I can't remember if it was for the Animatrix or for Star Wars trailers, but I think the film was "Dreancatcher), and then walking out of the cinema. This phenomena actually made the news.

If you choose to view the trailer on the net, It would probably be wisest to go through a site like apple.com - they probably keep numbers on each link clicked, they might be able to see the Serenity fans gathering enforce... :D

I'm ashamed to admit that I was one of those people. I went to see "Dreamcatcher" ONLY because I wanted to see "The Final Flight of the Osiris" (from "The Animatrix") on the big screen.

Turned out that "Dreamcatcher" was a pretty awesome movie -- until my friend patiently explained to me that it wasn't supposed to be a comedy!

That's great, but I'd really like to see it going with some pre-Christmas release films...I'm concerned that January promos for an April release is cutting it a little short, considering we're finding out that there are a LOT of closet Browncoats out there who have no idea there is a movie coming out or that the DVD set exists.

Maybe (oh hope, oh hope, oh hope) everything will go really well in post-production and they'll be able to get that date moved up some???!!

I agree SHK. I would like to see a trailer in the theatre in late Nov, early Dec. The holiday season sees a lot of new movies, and ticket sales always go up to the holidays (things being closed & people on vacation). A trailer attached to a big movie or two during the holiday would get it a lot of exposure.

Personally I would like a 5-6 month run for the trailer to get as much interest generated as possible.

I have hated most trailers for years. They cherry-pick the best lines, ruining the surprise of hearing them in the movie and they give away the plot. I just read Joss's blog where he praises the studio honchos for not interfering. I'm hoping that means Joss gets to approve and/or make the preview. I know he could make it appealing and intriguing without giving anything away.

The pairing with Electra worries me a bit. This is not ONLY an action adventure. I fully expect to have my heart ripped out and to see some amazing acting. The trailer should show with a film where a sophisticated audience can get a taste for it also. (Yes, sophisticated people might attend Electra too, but the majority will be there for hot babes and action, action, action.)

Just a reminder to those of us in Canada: Trailers do not behave the same way here (it seems to be in the hands of the individual theatres up here, lest they hype a movie they don't actually plan on showing). I learned this lesson after not seeing the AotC trailer when I went to whatever movie it was that carried that.

It might very well not play with Elektra and end up appended to just about any movie. Wait for the day to arrive; I go to enough movies that I'll keep a heads-up of where it is and isn't playing around here.

I'm not saying there won't be the people there for hot babes and action, but I think the people most likely to be seeing Elektra are comic book geeks. Elektra got spun off from the Daredevil comics, so it really is only natural that she gets a movie as well. And the geeks of a specific character/universe will watch any movie done with that character/universe so they can have the joy and pleasure of either trashing it or talking it up as the best movie ever. Probably trashing it -- the geeks I know weren't too happy with Daredevil.
Wait, no! I swear, I don't know any of these comic geeks! No! I don't hang out with those sort of people!

Wouldn't it be just shiny to be a hardcore browncoat whos been living under a rock for the past year and has no idea that there's a movie coming to walk into a theater and be greeted with the Serenity trailer?

That would be so goddamn cool.

Also, i don't wanna see it in january. I wanna see it now! (like the real one, not the bootleg one)

But whatever, i'm just gonna be thankful for what i got.

What trailers play with what is often decided by the theatre bookers and schedulers here in the US as well, many times we were told to take of attached trailers because our chain decided that they did not want to put that trailer on even if we had been specifically told to run it by the film company. I think it has to do with their booking agreements with other companies but if you are really worried about seeing the trailer and we know that it will be released the same weekend as Elektra, just call your local theatre...they should (in theory) be able to tell you what movie that it is running with. Lets just hope that Universal gets a move on and releases this trailer over the Christmas season. The more people we can expose to the trailer the better.
