I was just wondering if anyone caught any ship classes other than the almighty Firefly class. I can't seem to remember if any others were mentioned and unfortunately my DVDs are on loan right now so I can't check for myself.

There are defintaly other ship classes that we SEE, but i don't think we're given the nice spicific number like we get for Serenity.

I think we DO get a nice name on the subtitle for the aliance cruser thing in "Serenity," although I can't remember what it is. My DVD's are on loan too, or else i would check for you.

Dortmunder, I believe it was. We also get another Alliance ship name in... gah, the one where Book gets shot (Safe?). Dunno the ship class though.

It was the Magellan, I think. Probably, it was the same class as the Dortmunder.

Yeah I looked there first. I was just wondering if there were any others. Most of those are ship names and descriptions than acutal class designations.

No, not really. I did a fairly extensive search of the DVDs and the scripts to look for ship designations and types as research for a board game which simulates trading in the Firefly 'Verse. Aside from the ones collected here and linked above, you won't find many designations.

Most sci-fi series (with the notable exception of Star Trek in recent years) aren't very clear on the concept of class designations, "name"-ships and how naval construction and development works in general; River's little schpiel being a delightful departure from the norm.

The real world doesn't go in for class names for commercial vessels much either, however, so far as I can tell -- seems to be the exception, not the rule.

If you're looking for previous examples, the only merchant shipping board game I know is Distant Seas:

You might also search the net for various discussions about a viable "Starchaser" game, mentioned in CJ Cherryh's book _Cyteen_ but never given definite rules.
