Don't know if this has made it on here yet - I couldn't see anything. Apologies if it has.

Anyway, the latest issue of SFX (#122 October 2004) has a small feature on page 22. I hope I'm not infringing on any copyrights by re-typing all this, but anyway. It reads:

The New United Church of Serenity...

You know it's good. Damned good. The White Album, Battle of Hoth, honey-flavoured Greek yoghurt-level good. Now it's up to you and us to gather and spread the word! Never before has the SFX team been united in its love of one TV series. Never before have we confidently recommended that every single reader of this magazine owes it to him or herself to own a particular box set. But that was the case with Firefly.

Sure, we're sometimes dubbed the unofficial Joss Whedon magazine. Sure we're biased. But ever since we awarded the Firefly box set five stars we've has hundreds of letters along the lines of, "I wasn't sure about this show, but after reading your enthusiastic review I bought it and now I'm 100% converted." So we know you love Joss's exquisite space western as much as we do. What's not to like? It's sharp, it's funny, it's packed with great characters, it's got fantastic FX, and it's got a tough guy with a girlie name.

And now, of course, there's a movie on the way: Serenity. We want it to be a hit. Oh, how we want it to be a hit. So let's get the buzz started NOW! The best publicity is word of mouth, so put your mouth to the best use it's had since you discovered how to swear in a foreign language.

Your mission is to create converts. Spread the word. Convince your mates - like we convinced you - to watch the show. Now, this may entail you having to lend out your DVD box sets; this could be traumatic. It may come back with scuffed corners. IT'S WORTH IT FOR THE GREATER GOOD! (Or you could just lend them the discs in one of those plastic case thingies...). You could also try:

--> Group Firefly viewing sessions, with the promise of beer and pizza to lure in potential conquests.
--> Ringing up your local radio station phone-in to babble on about Firefly.
--> Sneaking into Dixons to pump Firefly onto all the TV sets on display.
--> Projecting the Firefly logo onto the Houses of Parliament (or, alternatively, Gail Porter's bare buttocks).
--> Crop circles.
--> Surreptitiously setting up a TV showing Firefly in the Tate Gallery. It'll take them weeks to realise it's not the latest Tracey Emin piece.
--> Bribing people.

However you decide to spread the word, tell us about it. If you get on TV or radio, or the newspapers, send us the evidence. Best still, get new converts to e-mail us (sfx@futurenet.co.uk) and pledge their allegiance to the New United Church of Serenity. And we shall discover the Serenity Superfan.

Good to see some Browncoats in the media!

I might give them an email, let them know a bit more about the fan sites and fan campaigns.

Thanks for posting this!

Okay, I need to start coming up with publicity ideas. Lets see, I have a friend who works in Woolworths and might be willing to put some Firefly on the store TV set (they have a TV where they screen DVDs and video games they want to advertise). Plus I think I'll invite my mates round for some Firefly viewing evenings. Ive already arranged a movie night for this weekend so I might sneak some Firefly in between the George A Romero films.

There are two different covers for this particular issue (#122): one with Darth Vader and 2 Stromtroopers, and another with Han, Luke and Leia.

I should point out that I'm a subscriber, and so got my issue a bit early. I don't think this issue is actually due in shops until sometime next week (in the UK, that is). Keep 'em peeled though!

Hey all you talented artists here that make such beautiful images to share with us, I'd love to see someone do a "Serenity" Crop Circle pic to send them.

Anyone have any ideas already as to what they might do to claim the title of Serenity Superfan?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

This is a great write up, and the free publicity alone is enough to gain our respect and appreciation. I think it is shiny that this magazine and its staff would go all out to promote the DVD set and the BDM!

I will be contributing in my own small way. I run a radio station which goes on air on October 9th, and I'll be giving away a firefly box set on my show, as part of the Firefly Fan Campaign.

You can only pick it up in Halto over the radio, but you'll be able to listen online.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

That is great DoubleShiny. You should let us know where you are and the station # so local Browncoats can listen in.

Its great to hear abut the radio show giveaway you should send sfx magazine an email telling them about it. Im sure the more mail/email sfx get on this topic the more coverage they will give it in the magazine.
