I heard on the commentary on the DVDs that they actually made rules and everything for the card game that they play. And in the commentary, it said that they'd put them online somewhere, but I haven't seemed to find them? So, I was wondering if anybody knew either where they are or if they had downloaded them before they went away because of the bad men?

Thanks!

I heard that there were rules for "tall card?" out there somewhere too. I'd also be interested in the set of rules in anyone knows them.

Inara: Who's winning?
Simon: I can't really tell, they don't seem to be playing by any civilized rules that I know.

SHINYSEVEN

In Shindig, when Simon, Jayne and Book are playing TallCard in the dining room, they're using round cards with pictures of fruit on them. (They look to me like somebody in the prop department just bought some coasters.) Later on in the same episode, though, when they're plotting to distract Badger's men, they're playing cards using a deck of small rectangular cards.

When River says "Jayne is a girl's name," Jayne claims that he was reaching for a deck of cards, not evidence "that he has man parts." Which makes me think that the cards they were playing with were removed from inside Jayne's pants...in which case, yuck.

You're not entirely right. . .

In "Shindig", the game 'Tall Card' seems to have two components. . .

The round, coaster-like pieces with the fruit on them. . .but in their HANDS, they actually have the small (possibly metal) playing cards that appear to be more standard.

From what I could piece together during the episode, the 'coasters' represent the different suits. . .plum, and such rather than diamond, heart, spade, club. The dealer turns over the top 'coaster' to reveal WHICH suit is the 'tall card'. . .and that affects the rules from there. IT sounds almost like a mix of the rules of Spades and Draw Poker.

I like the way you think Static. It sounds more like a mix of spades and gin,
with a little whiskey on the side fer sippin, of course.
We should piece together the rules.

longpai sounds possible though

Which of the heavenly beasts is used for the common jack, queen, king, ace?
does it go: Tortoise, Unicorn, Phoenix, Dragon?

You know. . .once we put together a few rules. . .that would be a wonderful way for a handful of us to pass the time as folks are coming in to the theatre for the NC Premiere Shindig.

With, of course, chilled glasses of Jameson Whiskey by our sides.

Thanks!

And yeah, playing at the premier sounds like a great plan. Not to mention, playing at Firefly parties!
