Hi everyone! Does anyone have a (reasonable) Serenity .3ds file he's willing to share?
I'm trying to create a Serenity for Freelancer myself but that's not working out so well.
So, has anyone created a .3ds file of the ship?

Many thanks!

Awhile back there was news about someone working on a Serenity mesh. And I know that biotech on TrekBBS (dunno his name here) has a partly-finished one.

Don't know the formats, though, sorry.

If you find a completed 3d model, let me know----I need temporary access to one for a project I'm working on as well.

I also would like any format mesh of Serenity. I have been, slowly and painfully, trying to make one in Maya. If and when I am done, I will make available to whoever wants it, but don't hold you breath. Remember, I said Slooooly and PAINFULLY trying to make one!!!

Jon Marcure made a great Firefly-class ship Orbiter mesh that I converted to Gmax. He considers it freeware. If you'd like the gmax version, I can send it to you. Email kline .at. researchsupport.com if you're interested.

^Sadly, I only have Cinema 4D. However, if I requested a very specific set of renders, could you do that for me?

Its for my Firefly total-conversion of Escape Velocity: Nova.

The directions for making the base sprite are simple; only the engine glows might start to make things complicated.

Its biotech here too, and my unfinished model is in 3D Max5 format.

Unfortunately, I have basically zero modeling experience. I learned what I did about GMax in order to convert the Orbiter model. I would highly recommend either:

1) Searching the web for a .gmax to .3ds converter (there's got to be one out there - I found an Orbiter to gmax converter, after all :)

2) Downloading GMax. It's free.

or

3) Getting Biotech's version. The one I use is not so high quality - it's designed for playing Orbiter. It's much too high quality for Neverwinter Nights (which is what I use it for) and likely much lower quality than Biotech's.

Good luck,
FW

Unfortunately, there is no Mac version of Gmax. And while it might work under Virtual PC, I doubt it would run on Windows 95, which is what I've currently got on VPC.

That said, I don't need a particularly high-quality model for my purposes. I'll look around for a free renderer of Gmax/3ds meshes.....

NOISECRIME

Hey BioTech,

I've been monitoring your Serenity model at Renderosity since you posted about it here. I have to say its looking most impressive from the images .I thought I’d fired off an IM a few months ago, but never heard anything back. However checking Renderosity now claims I never sent any IM's so maybe I just imagined I did?

Anyway if you're still willing to share you model I’d be very interested in getting a copy.

Initially I was keen to make game based on firefly, but developing a game to do justice to firefly is no simple task so thats on the back burner. However I've thought it would be nice to put together a 3D screensaver so thats what I’d like to use the model for.

Unless its already low poly, I will have to do some optimisations if you don't mind. Although not really a 3D modeller, I’ve been using modelling apps since the original Stratavision (if you've ever heard of it) and regularly have to alter models, optimise them etc. Actually I’ve been working on optimising a B5 StarFury from an original source of something like 20,000 polys. Got it down to 2,500 without losing too much form or detail (I think). Obviously it could be optimised much further, but any substantial culling of polygons will result in a much less accurate representation.

You can see a couple of screenshots here (WIP)

although I’ve not been able to update the site for some time, there are some interesting demos http://www.noisecrime.com/develop/index.html

If you don't mind sending the file please email it to the noisecrime address printed on the images

Cheers

When its finished I'll share it, but until then its only half a model so wont be of much use to you.

Its very high poly at the moment!
