Apparently The Family Guy is going into production again and will be showing in 2005 on Fox. Fox decided that they would let the show run again after huge DVD sales. It had been cancelled because Fox didn't understand it. Sound like another show we know? Maybe this is the first step towards new Firefly shows. I mean we even have a movie coming out. How much more free publicity does Fox want for a show. Grr Arrgh

Oh, here is the article if anyone is interested.

Well, I know there are plenty of Firefly fans around, but does anyone know how well the DVDs are selling...particularly compared to Family Guy?

i remember a statistic for the firefly dvd. it was maybe a month or two ago i read that they had sold over 200,000 firefly dvd's. I don't know how many family guy has sold.

Hmm...well, that sure seems like a good sales figure for a show that didn't even broadcast a whole season, doesn't it?

Um... while I applaud the Family Guy coming back, I dont know if I would WANT Firefly to return to go se FOX(spit!)

If you have watched the bonus material you know by now how the cast and crew dance around calling go se FOX(spit!) bad names and how much it appears it was a headache to work for. I would rather Firefly come back to a network that WONT interfer with the creative control and would be "Robustly Enthusiastic" to have such a show instead of "I dont get it" and "Why are there horses in the credits?".

Go se FOX(spit!) hates to spend money, so they would rather put on a reality TV show with drug addicted ex-hollywood stars on an island with hidden bags of crack on it. Cost? Crack is dirt cheap and the has-beens work for free. Cost is null.

Unfortunately, right now the broadcast rights lie in Fox's dirty little hands, so while I do not like Fox and can honestly say that I no longer watch the channel because there is nothing on there to waste my time on, I have to have hope and faith that Fox will see Firefly as a possible money maker. That said, I hope that they see selling the rights as something they would want to do to make that money. Hopefully any network that would spend that kind of money would do Firefly right but as of yet, I've not heard of any network not screwing at least one show in its lineup. Their business is about money and ratings, not making their viewership happy by letting them make up their own minds without having it shoved down their throat.
My rant for the evening.

the thing is, universal have paid a bundle of cash to the rights to make the film versions. you can bet that their contracts will stop fox from making more episodes to the tv series for a fair old while, so for the series to come back to weekly doses on the small screen there would have to be a ton of legal negotiations and presumably more cash. then theres also issues with creative direction, that universal would want the series to stay in line with their films, so fox would have to waive their rights to interfere with the direction things go, and we all know that fox execs like fiddling with joss' work cos its too good for them.

and that 200,000 units sold is an old figure. it was an old figure when it was being thrown around a fair few months back, so now its positively ancient, so hopefully we've shifted a bunch more copies since then.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I am happy for the Family Guy and it creators for getting the show back on the air. It never did much for me personally, but it was a good show. Glad to see them climb out of the pit Fox tossed them into because they didn't know a good thing when they had it.

The last figure we got from an official source was 200,000 DVD sets sold. Of course that figure was back in May or June I think. I am certain we are past the 300,000 mark by now. I am not certain what the Family Guy's DVD sales were like, but that show was around for 2 or 3 seasons; Firefly was around for 11 episodes.

As far as Firefly on TV......I would not expect to see it anytime soon. With the contract Fox has, which Nathan & Jewel have confirmed to a point, Firefly can not return to television for a set # of years, though the exact # of years is still unknown.

I agree w/ others that if the BDM is wildly successful, and merchandise sales are good, there may be hope for the show. We all know that Hollywood and their execs are motivated by money & the potential for ratings, if they think for one minute that Firefly/Serenity can provide either or both who knows what might happen. Contracts are made to be renegotiated or broken. With Universal in his corner, if the BDM is successful, Joss could easily get the TV rights to Firefly back.

Yup. We don't want them stabbin' us in the back again. Plus, they deserve to see how the movie is a great success (*ahm*not thanks to them*ahm*) and get none of the credits for what could be their success.

If you want to hear how difficult Fox is to work with, talk to Matt Groening. Or watch any episode of the Simpsons in the last few years. [Especially the last season]. Groening just has enough power that he can get away with it :).

First of all, it's "gorram fox." Note the lack of capitalization, indicating my extreme lack of respect for this gorram network.

Second, if they do anything at all with Firefly (unlikely, but I remain hopeful) I would think it would happen after the movie results are in.

At the San Diego Comic-Con, Tim Minear mentioned that a big part of the reason Wonderfalls was cancelled was that the head exec(s) of Fox wanted to change the direction of the network and make it 'more mainstream'. Of course, even if they were willing to air FF again, why should we trust a network who shows crap like The Swan and Fox News?

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

I saw the commercial last night for it on fox.

Yes, I still watch some shows, and, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've been watching Trading Spouses.

It's absolutely hilarious! Man! The snobs they get on that show! Next week the Daddies get switched...

More "mainstream" means more reality shows. They may as well go ahead & make the change official; drop the Fox & rename themselves the "Reality Network". Their slogan can be "Mindless garbage for the masses!"

Someday there will be a TV network that cares about making quality shows and telling well written stories, instead of just getting ratings. Let's hope that day comes soon.

Can anyone find a link with the official sales numbers for Firefly?

Need to shut some arrogant [chinese slur] up who looks down upon Firefly yet is a pro-active X-files fan (so if the sales figures for any of those dvd sets are easy to find I'll gladly use them :)).

Family Guy's DVD sales puts Firefly's to shame so I doubt FOX would bring Firefly back when it's "only" sold 300,000. Personally I don't want Firefly back on TV, I want movies. I now think of Firefly as just one long prologue to the Serenity saga rather than a short lived TV series.
