Well, here's the situation. Tonight, I'm going over a friend's house to play D&D with a bunch of guys. I want to convert them to the side of us Browncoats. However, there's a slight problem. My first disc of the DVD set is currently out on loan, so I don't have the first episode to show them. My question is, which do you think would be best to show them, instead of Serenity?

I'm thinking Out of Gas.

Are you from Fox?

We'll assume for a moment you just haven't gotten around to buying your copy of the DVDs to loan out to people, and genuinely want to convert these people...

your best option, if it is an option, is to just play D&D tonight and another night, when you have the pilot, convert them to Browncoats. But, if you're intent...

1) Out of Gas: The "second pilot" of the series. Also, a damned good episode.

2) Our Mrs. Reynolds: A good, stand-alone episode that you don't need to know a lot about the crew or the 'verse to fully appreciate.

3) Jaynestown: Another solid episode, again, a good story without a lot of background needed.

I agree with your choice of Out of Gas, because the flashbacks put them in good shape if they want to see the rest.

My only issue with OOG as a first exposure is that a lot of the effectiveness of the flashbacks is in the context of already knowing something about the people involved. I think OMR would be good (whoa! good ep!). I also think Safe would work - covers a whole lot of the elements.

Yeah, and if wishes were horses we'd all be eatin' steak.

i say go with "ms. reynolds" becuase it is very episodc and you dont need to know much about the rest of the cast to really enjoy it. well it does, but i think"out of gas" shouldnt be it for reasons someone already posted on this thread. and not "jaynestown" for the same reaons. and plus theres that kinda corny song which might turn newcomers away.

"Out of Gas". It's very dramatic and gives you backstory on the characters who were already on as of "Serenity".

What about "The Train Job"? That's the first ep FOX showed, the first ep I ever saw, and it pulled me in. It "felt" like a first ep at the time...

Bunch of guys huh? Perhaps Our Mrs. Reynolds would be the best choice. As someone pointed out, it stands alone and it's funny. Plus, you get to see YoSafBridge all nekkid and articulate. That oughta hook 'em.

If it's not too late to chime in...

I agree with those that said The Train Job would be best. However, since I believe that is on the first disc, and your problem is that you don't have the first disc, then yea, I'd go with OMR.

My days of not takin' you seriously are certainly comming to a middle.

Ask the person you loaned the first disk to return it for that evening.

Start with Serenity. Please.
