Well, I must say that I am a might bit excited about attending the unveiling of the Wild Fire spacecraft tomorrow here in Toronto ... this is one of two Canadian entrants into the X-Prize contest (the 10 million dollar prize that is available to any private group that successfully builds and flies a reusable spacecraft).

The reason I bring this up is because it occurred to me that this whole frontier, screw the big dumb government, free enterprise theme is a whole lot like Firefly!

We are right at the beginning, watching it unfold ... the beginning of the private exploration of space and I think it would be really appropriate if the people making the Firefly movie could find a way to have one of the X-Prize entrants like Burt Rutan (American Mojave Aerospace Ventures) or Brian Feeney (Canadian da Vinci Project) make a cameo appearance in the movie.

I don't have any contacts with the Serenity movie production people, but if someone out there does, and thinks this might be a cool idea then I hope you will pass it on.

You can't take the sky from me ...

After viewing the unveiling of WildFire today I am even more convinced that this would be a cool idea.

Looking at this ship, a lot of who's parts were purchased on ebay, including the helmet Brian will be wearing, reminds me so much of Serenity ... old fashion toggle switches, bare metal everywhere, and one of their biggest sponsor is the on-line gambling company Golden Palace ... if that ain’t questionable ethics I don't know what is .... not to mention the sleep deprived, red eyed ground crew that had been working nonstop for three days trying to get everything together for the media circus today.

Anyway it is a great adventure and is going to be a heck of a horse race for the 10 million dollar purse.

OH YA, and they also have a priest as one of their volunteers!!

SUPERFLY

God I'm so glad the space frontier is going the way of private enterprise. If it were left only up the governments, I honestly believe we'd never see lots of civilians hitting space in our life time. They just need to hurry up and make it safe and I need to hurry up and get stupid rich so I can buy a ride on one of those rockets!!!

"Also, I can kill you with my brain."

FIREFLYGAL

Hadn't actually thought about that comparison till I read this thread. I just came back from the EAA fly-In at Oshkosh. Both Rutan Brothers were there talking about their try at the X Prize flight in September. With the Canadian entry this close behind, it's no longer a shoe-in for Burt and the boys. I'm hoping to be at the Mojave to watch history the end of September. And yeah, I need to get stupid rich too so I can be a paying passenger. Burt was actually talking (seriously?) about selling lottery tickets at next year's Oshkosh fly-in and the 2 winners get the ride of a lifetime.
