I really really REALLY wanna go to the North Carolina Premear Party (NCPP), the problem is - Parents.

So, Help me out with some compelling reasons that my parents would buy to let me go.

Thanks!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I have to echo Haken's question Ebonezer; how old are you?

The reason I ask is because your age could be a factor in the possibility of your parents letting you go and what arguements might best be used to convince them.

Also, how far is it from your home to Raleigh? Would your parents have to accompany you? I understand that parents don't want a minor going to hang out with people they know only from the internet. It's also a big difference if you are 17 or are 13.

Your best plan would be to find an adult you and your parents know well who is also a Firefly fan and see if they would chaperone you at the event, if your parents don't want to go with you.

I hope Ebo won't mind me fielding two of these questions for her. . .

She's under 18, and she lives on the opposite coast. . .so we're talking serious issues here.

Does it have to be North Carolina? There may be premier parties closer to home.

We got you partially surrounded.

1. Because you are an honor student. Requires some work on your part but the premier is months away.

2. Offer them a choice: Ozzfest or Premier Shindig.

3. Make them watch Firefly, then they will want to go with you.

4. Blackmail. Come on, all parants have something to hide.

5. Make inquiries into a career with the merchant marine expressing desire to sail beyond the reach of your parants oppressive regime.

If you don't live in NC then it become progessively harder the further you live.

I feel your pain, Ebo! (hell, I'll be 38 next week, live as close as Pennsylvania, and still have reservations about my ability to make the shindig!)

Still, I'm with HERO on the suggestions (pay particular attention to number three!).

Worst to worst, there are many Browncoats on the Left Coast who, I'm sure, would be more than happy to arrange with you a Cali Premiere Shindig!

Either that, or STATIC could rent a Jet Ranger or something, pick you up and fly you out himself (he is a War Hero [note: zero sarcasm], after all!)

Best of luck

I just moved from my home state of NC a few months ago and now live close to Pennyslvania, and I don't know if I can make the Shindig....so meebe us BC's around this area can get something going...and other areas as well...

If you can't get to NC, maybe you could host your own. Get a group of friends together (convert them first if necessary) and plan some sort celebration for yourselves -- watch 2 eps a night for a week or something leading up to the grand finale, the BDM.

I'm not too far removed from under 18, and I can't think of a single reason my parents would have bought for allowing me to go to a similar event on the other side of the country.

I'm hoping this is one of those emotional posts we're all prone to on occasion...

Your parents are going to ask you WHY?
Heck we're all asking you WHY?
I'd suggest you sit down and write/journal out WHY first. Dump it out onto paper. Whatever your reasons are, your VERY LOUD PLEA FOR HELP is clearly stating you're carrying around some cargo that's stashed away someplace. After you write your reasons once, I'd sleep on it a day or two, and then write them out again. I mean you have between now and two months prior to the BDM to figure out IF you have good enough reasons. (And I'm guessing at this point those reasons are mostly feeling-based?) (FYI: 2 months prior to a departure date is when airline ticket prices start increasing.)

Now if that wasn't geeky parent-like enough for you here's more...

...based on what Static said, you would be an younger-aged female on the opposite side of the US from NC... heck if that's the case I won't even let you attend.
You'd be much better off attending something closer to you that is age appropriate, either with friends your parents know, or with your parents themselves. (Have you converted them to being Firefly fans?) If there's no party close that is age appropriate, then why don't you throw one of your own on opening day, and invite your friends? Have a get together at your house before/after the movie.

The general goal (I thought) is to get together with other friends (hopefully some Browncoats), go see the BDM, and have a good time, before, during, and after.

The goal should not be to throw oneself clear across the country risking who knows what danger to oneself while at the same time emptying someone's pockets of cash that could instead be saved for such things as a car, college, or a cool vacation to someplace other than a movie theatre near Raliegh/Durham in the month of April. (This applies to me just as much it does to you. I had to restrain myself from SanDiego.)

Now if the age or gender are wrong, my apologies. Just forward this to any other young Browncoat thinking-feeling about the same thing.

Strictly from the school of do as I say, not as I do, I'm in total agreement.

I love Static's idea, and I'm sure it'll get the great turnout it deserves if those couple of hurdles get leapt - but see it locally, get some friends together and spread the word.

Your money is better spent on going to a local convention - easier to persuade your parents to drop you off at the door in the morning and pick you up at the end of the day.

Thus speaks the world's biggest hypocrite, for I am scraping the cash together to fly across to Cincinatti to see Guided By Voices. I, however, am old enough to know better, have a good friend in Cinci to visit at the same time, and the band break up after this tour.

Yeah. . .

I need to go on record as saying I'm not laboring under the delusion that the NC Premiere Party is going to be the ONLY party going on. Hell. . .it might not be the only party in North Carolina!!!!

I LOVE that folks would like to fly in from all over the country, and I welcome that. BUT. . .for the record. . .my feelings are NOT hurt if you say, "Dude. . .have fun. . .take pictures. . .I'm gonna see it in MY city." ESPECIALLY if you live on the other end of the ruttin' country.

I got lots of love for Ebo and the rest of you, and I'd love for you all to be there, but my expectations are realistic.

'nuff said?

Ebo, are you on the West Coast? I think AllysonGurl is trying to set up a premier for browncoats in the LA area...

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

I only know her from FFF.net. ..and of course the frequent AIM chat. . .and we also work out together in Succatash's dreams. ..but other than that. . .and she's on the opposite end of the country from me. That is. . .when we're not pumping iron in Succatash's horribly tweaked psyche.

I was not aware of the Tash thing.

Anyway, wouldn't it be obvious that you should make your own BDMPP (Big Damn Movie Premeir Party) near yourself? That's what I was going to do. Or look very, very hard for one near your home?

Looking at this from a different point of view Ebo, think HOW MANY TIMES you could go to see Serenity locally, and HOW MANY PEOPLE you could take with you... for a fraction of the cost of travelling to NC! Think what that would do for box office receipts.

The better the ticket sales in the opening weekend, the more likely we are to see sequels..
!

Yeah...well...you know Tash.

Thanks guys! I am noticing a general negativeness about the whole me going thing...but thats ok. I'm gonna start saving now, and If i don't end up going, I'll buy a car.

Oh, and for the record, at the time of the premere I'll be 16, and I'll still (hopefully) be a female.

Ah, yes, nothing like a 15 year old to ask for advice then NOT take it. LOL. I'm in Florida and we're working on an Orlando Premier Shindig but believe me, Los Angeles is where I'd want to be seeing Serenity premier. So why you're working so hard to see Serenity on the wrong side of the country is beyond me. LA will be the place to be! Gather some friends and make your own Shindig there in California , where Joss and the BDC (Big Damn Cast) will be.
