ZOID

Browncoats:

That's gotta be Shadow getting the explosive outgassing treatment I've described previously. Turn off the gravity generators and ka-blooey!

Whatcha think?

Wistfully,

zoid

"Laugh, Cry and Scream when you find Serenity"

Is this the teaser poster's tagline, or your sig line?

I too am not particularly impressed by the design.

EVILNATE

It looks like a competently produced fan poster, but if it's the offical teaser, it's lame. The positioning of the elements (Serenity, the title, and the planet) are all wrong, it doesn't draw your eye, and the angles created by the ship and the title don't work. If you eliminated the ship and the planet, and just had the title on a starry background with the release date, that would be a much more effective teaser poster.

See I picure a profile shot of the ship flying low in the background while in the foreground you have a mustang with the horses head in front of serinity's head. IE to show off how much the ship looks like a horse.

And if you never saw that in the design of the ship you have my apologies.

SPOOKYJESUS

When we saw this at the trade show I was hoping it was just for that - the trade show - now it's official........I could be happier.

I'm into movies in a BIG way - and that poster won't do a lot for anybody.

There will be more for the campaign push itself but I hope to God that that won't be the "Main" one.

- I'm sure it will be changed. sure of it - that wouldn't even make a good DVD cover let alone the image to build a campaign around.

Sci-fi always does well with a singular ballsy image - like the Jurassic Park logo, the Matrix green letter shit - the 12 Monkeys 12 Monkeys.
Can't think of what we've got besides the chinese but we don't want any dumbass' to think this is a foreign flick.

They'll change it. I'm certain.

OOG

*weeping* Please let this not be it. I sure hope they have something better planned.

Who makes posters for the movies BTW? Is the filming company (Universal) or do they hire outside, or how does that work exactly? I want to know who to yell at!!

NOOCYTE

I too think this poster falls short of the mark. I do hope that it is changed, or joined with more effective images as part of the overall campaign for the film (for which, IIRC, Universal will have a lot of money to spend, since they have no really major competing releases anywhere in the temporal neighborhood of "Serenity's" release).

I don't think, Zoid, that the image shows explosive outgassing so much as a nebula behind the planet, with a sun behind that, making it all flarey. By way of digression, I REALLY hope they don't explain terraforming celestial bodies by way of gravity generators. I don't care how reliable they are; sooner or later, all technology will need servicing or it will fail. And if fail it does, then you have a whole biosphere (ful of tax-paying citizens) whooshing off into the black. It would be deeply unwise...then again, do we really think the Alliance is above un-wisdom? Hmmm.

By the by, I zoomed in on the ship in that poster. Is it me, or does Serenity look a mite...smoother in that pic? Could we be looking at the upgraded ship? If so, I am comforted, as the changes are really minimal.

Keep Flyin'!

May I ask why you think this is the "official" poster? Is it on the serenitymovie.com or universal pictures website somewhere?

"I left my heart in Seren-ity Val-ley..." <-- the farthest I've ever gotten in writing filk. ;)

Lone voice in the wilderness this way - hey, hey, over here! Lone voice!

I rather like that as a concept for a first poster - beats the name on a black background.

Looks kind of distinguished, and isn't fanfaring the movie, true, but this I suspect they will be looking for an organic campaign - rather than throwing all the money at the ads

"I threw up on your bed"

GOJIRO

The place claiming this is the official poster is RopeOfSilicon.com. They also have this to say:

Quote:

As for Serenity, "Firefly" fans the world-round will get a look at an original sci-fi adventure based on the acclaimed "Firefly" series, in which a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future eke out a living pulling off small crimes and transports-for-hire aboard their ship, Serenity. When they take on two new passengers, they find themselves at the center of a deadly hunt that pits Serenity against the greatest forces in the galaxy. Joss Whedon, the Academy® and Emmy-nominated writer/director of the worldwide television phenomena "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel", makes his feature film directorial debut with the futuristic action-adventure. Just like Spy Hunter an innovative action-adventure video game, and an exciting multi-titled publishing program will expand the Serenity universe.

Now, what I find interesting is last line. Did I miss an announcement? Is there going to be a line of Firefly novels? A video game?

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

It looks like a comic book cover. ( and not a very good one at that.) It almost looks like Serenity is somehow attacking the planet down below, while also entering the atmosphere.
Damn yokels can't even tell a transport freighter ain't got no guns on it.

C'mon Browncoats..we can do better. We MUST do better.

p.s. - I wonder if that explosion is relevent to the movie plot in some way. Hmmmmmm...

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "
