Bryan Singer is apparently aboard as new director for the long awaited fifth Superman movie now that McG is out. After that, he is scheduled to make the Logan's Run remake. With the success I'm pretty damn sure Serenity will have at the box office, why not have Joss direct X3. He knows that material pretty well - growing up reading the comics and writing Astonishing X-Men now, so why not? I personally think he would nail the Phoenix Saga dead on, but that's just what I think.

It won't go unremarked, however, that Joss Whedon wrote a draft for the first movie that was subsequently abandoned. Well, except for one line, anyway.

Point is, whilst we all know Joss could do it, everyone else will simply think: 'if he couldn't write a good enough script for the first one, why should he be allowed to make the third one?'

Of course, everyone else is wrong.

I think Joss would do an amazing job on X3 - but, the Firefly fan in me would like to see him stay away from any Fox productions for a while.

I know Fox TV is diferent from Fox movies and that any future Joss TV will be done via Fox but the longer it is before I see their respective names side by side the better - after your parents get divorced you don't want to walk in to find them having sex y'know.

Weird.

I thought X2 was a VAST improvement over X-Men, Joss notwithstanding. Bryan Singer is improving as an action director, let him make his own movie.

BUT... X-Men is Marvel, Superman is DC. This is not allowed. It's against the rules. The entire universe could implode around us, I'm not KIDDING.

If they really loved us, they'd find a way to give Tobey Maguire a cameo in "X3."

Or... Superman a cameo in the currently-filming "Batman: Intimidation."

... oh, and coincidentally, the new Batman isn't so much a "fifth" Batman as it is just a new movie. So I'd wager Superman would go the same way. I mean, did we REALLY need a sequel to "The Quest for Peace??!?!"

It's actually called Batman Begins and its an origin story starting with the death of his parents to him starting Wayne Enterprises to creating the first Batsuit and first prototype Batmobile.
Now to Superman, Bryan Singer is officially aboard with his writing crew of X2 and he said it's going to be a continuation to the universe created in the first 4 Superman movies and might be called Superman Returns. He specifically stated that it will not be an origin story like what they are doing with Batman. I had hoped that he would have gone and done X3 first since I'm not a large DC fan, but as long as he doesn't go and make Logan's Run directly after, I'm okay with it I guess. But I'm just saying, if they decide to replace him as director for X3, Joss would be an awesome runnerup to consider.

Is it really "official" yet? Near as I can tell, it's just being reported on a few sites at the moment, such as AICN - and let's face it, they have been wrong before.

Once this news is confirmed from the man himself (Singer), then I'll believe it.

BTW, if anyone hasn't seen Spider-Man 2 yet, you really should. Best... comic book movie... ever.

Singer's signed a contract to do it - do you really need him to tell you he's signed it to believe it's a legal matter of fact.

Obviously I don't need the man to phone me personally to confirm it, but it would be nice to hear confirmation from either him, or someone representing him or Warner Brothers.

You say he's signed a contract, but all I'm asking is where did you hear that? This news has been reported on several websites, but all of them refer to insiders or anonymous sources; there's no info from the studio, which I would expect there to be if they've signed Singer to such a big movie as this. If you've seen something I haven't, well fine, that's good enough for me.

I'm not doubting you here, just looking for a bit more confirmation is all. Otherwise it might still be a rumour that a lot of people just happened to have picked up on.

Aaaahhhh... now I feel better.

Sorry if I sounded a bit of a git before, I just tend not to trust these things until I hear some definite confirmation from a reliable source. Now I've seen four. I shall never doubt you again.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Joss would do an incredible job directing X3. As stated he has been reading the X Men comics for years, he now writes Astonishing X Men, and he wrote the script for the first movie. Who better to direct than Joss?
