There seems to be a movement on the site to get Kaylee and Simon together at some point, either in the movie (hopefully trilogy of movies) or in a new TV series. The problem with Kaylee and Simon is that although they like each other well enough they come from different worlds and they want to be in different worlds. Kaylee chose to be on Serenity and absolutely loves it, Simon would rather be on a core planet as a successful doctor. Combine that with Simon's sense of what's right, and respect and it looks like a no win situation.

What event could change the situation? Death of River brings them closer, without having to save his sister Simon has a decision to make- could it be Kaylee? In an iminate danger situation Simon desides being proper isn't worth it and makes love to Kaylee, Kaylee get's pregnant?

Let me know what you think

The crew is doing a job on a notorious gambling moon. Kaylee goes undercover as a sexy bar wench in the casino. Simon pretends to be a wealthy gambler.

What Kaylee doesn't know is that all new bar maids must have sex with a wealthy gambler or they get fired. Simon volunteers, he doesn't have a choice. He is bashfull and red faced as he leads Kaylee into a dark room. They come back in five minutes. Simon is smiling but Kaylee doesn't look to happy.

I like these elements of the plan

as nice as that would be, too many people love Jayne. (he does come a long way in the few episodes we did get.) Anyways, i do not see it as being necessary.
I think if Mal had not awakened them the way he did in Jaynestown, i think that their relationship would be much farther along. Simon needs to relax and truly accept that he is part of the crew. He has already started down that path, and hopefully in the movie he will not be such an outsider. as long as they are on Serenity, they have a chance to have a working relationship. River is getting better and she and Kaylee are close anyway... but it's like trying to date the single father of a sick child. it's not impossible, but it's certainly not easy. He likes her alot, you can tell in Jaynestown. they will meet halfway, i mean they don't have to be sleeping together to be a couple (at least in my world -- hollywood tends to see it differently). to conclude this long-winded fantasy, until things are settled with River and Blue Hands, nothing could be truly settled w/Simon and Kaylee. But as long as they are on Serenity, Kaylee and Simon will be stuck with each other and enjoying each other's company.

Simon and Kaylee have to come together slowly, that is what has been the problem Kaylee has rushed Simon in the past (because he is moving awful slow) and Simon gets uncombertable and says/does something boneheaded.
I think if they give it time they will get together, probably Simon and Kaylee alone and Simon will blurt out "I love you" or something and then try to take it back or say something really bad to cover.

Depending on how they write things in the movie;

If they are just meeting in the movie, then I see a scene where they get separated, after narrowing escaping with their lives. Things progress as they hide out.

If they have known each other, as they do in the series: It will be more gradual, but he was on the verge on saying it when Book made his ill-timed walk through the hallway. I think Simon wants to say it, and would, given they have at least 10 minutes of quiet time. I see him saying it while she works on the engines, so she isn't looking at him, to make him nervous. I see her banging her head on the engine in surprise and looking up, stunned. Then she pulls him down.

i love the duct tape idea. put some on simon's mouth so he wouldn't say anything dumb and there you go.(except for the fact that it would greatly hinder other uses for his mouth)
hmmmm maybe a freak accident where simon and jayne briefly (or not so briefly for kaylee's sake) switch testosterone levels or whatever it is so that Simon just loses control! (but in a good way)

It's the "two different worlds" problem I can't get over. There's a moment in the musical "Follies" where Phyllis points out to her husband the flaw in his plan to dump her for his old girlfriend Sally: "All your friends will just love her and her little tap shoes."

Am I the only person here who saw "Dharma & Greg"?

How would I bring Simon and Kaylee together?

Enthusiastically, and as often as possible. May they bring their unique individualities together and create something bigger than the 'verse itself.

I think Simon's definition of "successful doctor" needs to change. Yeah, he's from the Core, he trained there with the best medical equipment the Alliance has to offer --but at some point he's gonna realize that he could do some serious good out on the rim.

Maybe when all's said and done, and the "River issue" resulved, Serenity'll become a sort of poor-man's hospital ship, travelling around the 'verse and giving cheap (and competent --having them both is the kicker) medical service to them as wouldn't otherwise have it.

ooo...great question. i've got this all figured out already. i see simon spending an increasing amount of time with inara, just because she's so much easier to talk to. as this happens, kaylee observes and becomes more and more jealous. finally i see it all coming down to one day simon asking inara for advice on how to let kaylee know how he really feels about her. kaylee walks in on the situation, totally misreads it, and throws a fit, storming out. simon chases after her, starts to stutter and explain, then just gives up and plants a big kiss on her.

as a person in a "different world" reltionship, it's freakin' hard to maintain! And it takes forever to get to the relationship part. They may get there, and I hope they do, but it'll take some time. I see it developing slowly, with more fumbles. Maybe with a scene like ATREYU said.

Simon is not a rusher, Kaylee is a doer. if Kaylee was in danger or on his table again, well, he would say some things to her. Otherwise, he's going to keep chipping away at her until she understandds that he really does like her as much as she likes him.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

It is obvious that Simon is either too shy or too inexperienced to make a move on Kaylee, especially if he opens his mouth to try to say something smart and only stupid things fall out.

I think it will be up to Kaylee to make the first move, and it will happen after she thinks he is dead & he turns up in one piece, or he is wounded badly and recovers w/ her at his bedside.

I like Spuffy a lot, so I can't say that the move from UST to pairing is inevitably dismal for a series...but Serenity is not The Love Boat, and many of these Kaylee/Simon scenarios don't sound to me like good news for the hypothetical development of Firefly.

There's always an intrinsic problem with the 'will they won't they' relationship, because it gathers momentum constantly and eventually you've got to bring it to a head. I think this might be too much for the movie to handle, it'll only be two hours, it would be like having them get together over two episodes.

Maybe it's better to leave it as a Mulder and Scully type thing rather than a Ross and Rachel?

If everyone gets their wish and there are sequels, Simon and Kaylee will probably get togther during the end of sequel 2 or during sequel 3, if they get together at all.

I agree with people who say that this relationship will happen slowly, if it happens at all. In the meantime, there will be a lot more scenes where Kaylee pursues and Simon and Simon pulls back from her or puts his foot in his mouth.

When/if they do get together in the movies, the drama should be interesting to watch.

Umm, missionary? After the obligatory 30 seconds of foreplay, of course...
