This has probably been discussed elsewhere, possibly in the Buffy or Angel boards, but I wanted to ask the Firefly community first, because I suspect that many browncoats are like myself: a HUGE fan of Firefly, but only recently took an interest in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Don't get me wrong, I've always liked BtVS well enough, but never made a point of making sure I was home when it was aired, like I was for Firefly. (That disclaimer was for all the Whedonites out there that were sharpening their sticks...)

Anyway, I was wondering if the hardcore fans of Buffy or Angel have noticed similiar dialogue among the two different genres.

As I said, I've just recently started watching BtVS from the beginning. I'm currently in Kuwait, and have bought the first 5 seasons so I can once and for all know the COMPLETE story. Also, I didn't get to catch Nathan Fillion as Caleb, and wanted to know the whole story leading up to the point where he comes in.

So, as the subject of this post indicates: I've just started Season 4, and Buffy has dropped a stack of books on Riley's head... who responds with a, "That was bracing." In Season 3, Angel said the same thing (I forget the context), and it made me go: "huh".

So have there been other parallels I've missed?

Mal: You are very much lacking in imagination.
Zoe: I imagine that's so, sir.

America loves a winner!

Why it may edge near blasphemy to some on this board, I wasn't more than casually drawn into either BtVS or Angel all that much UNTILL........FIrefly

I really started following Angel last season, but didn't know enough of the history to 'get' the references of previous 'sodes. I plan to go back and revisist all that stuff; I have a friend who is a HUGE Buffy / Angel fan. Curiously enough, she's not so much into Firefly, having missed most of it the 1st go around... I'm trying to fix all that She watches my loanerFirefly DVD box set, and I'll catch up on some of her Buffy DVD's..

I guess 1 thing that endeared me to Firefly was that it wasn't, on the surface, like Buffy or Angel..... teens and young 20 something kids...beautiful, over sexed ( not that there's anything wrong w/ that, mind you ) ...I just liked Firefly's more grown up, - life ain't always so perky or pretty - approach.

BLACKSHAMROCK5

I am a huge fan of all three shows, and there have been jokes or lines that have been used in more than one show (not that I'm complaining) The only one I can think of on the top of my head is when Oz on Buffy wakes up naked in the woods and says, "Huh?" much like Mal in Serenity. I know that there is more, but I can't think of any. Sorry.

There are a lot of parallels. Few of which are coming to mind at the moment...

- 'Not so much' has been used on all three shows if I recall correctly.

That's all I can think of for now (it's a short list, but I'm sleepy and thinking feels like this: ).

I actually started watching Buffy midway through season 3 and watched Angel the entire way through (thank goodness for vcrs and dvds!) Those shows were the reason I made a point to try to watch Firefly when it premiered. Of course I missed the first couple of episodes then saw part of Our Mrs Reynolds. The next week Out of Gas had me hooked.

And I've managed to ramble completely off-topic... told ya I needed sleep

I would say it's because it's basically from the same universe. Let's just hope it's the writers's style of writing.

*shrugs* But I never saw the resembelance. I think I will next time I see Buffy or Angel, I bet you $5 on it (not really).
