CHRONICTHEHEDGEHOG

I noticed when the casting sheet came out that it said Mal and crew would be pulling a bank job, and a lot of people seemed to think this wasn't something the crew would ever do, but I'm just wondering why?
In the series we've seen them steal medical supplies, a priceless artifact straight from someone's home, pull a train job, ransacking derelicts, smuggling.... they are criminals and by no means the good guys of the 'verse. My question is, if it was seen as easy money that would most likely be insured anyhow, why wouldn't they pull a bank job?

I share your view entirely. Many people, some of them even among those visiting this Board, see the Show-they-want rather than the Show-that-is; those guys are just too nice to be real crooks - it is an election year, after all

I don't disagree with the idea that Mal & crew would pull a bank job.

What I'm wondering is this: Why is it assumed that the "bank job" was in reference to something that Mal & crew were doing? I'm fair sure they aren't the only "criminals" in the 'verse. I don't recall any specifics about the "young tough" being held up by Jayne or Zoe. Maybe this "young tough" is a flash-back to Jayne's youth & how he got his start in thuggery. Who knows. Or did I see the wrong casting sheet?

Maybe it would attract too much attention? Though I think they are definitely capable of doing it...
btw, what casting sheet is that you are talking about? I would really like to see it but I can't find it.

Because of this line:
"Intent on screwing Mal after his latest bank job goes badly awry, Mingo and
Fanty have a quarrelsome negotiation with the cantankerous Mal, who wants to keep more
than 60% of his haul. "

See. . .

What drives me buggy about that casting sheet. . .even though we know now that it must be accurate. . .is the whole "lovebot" thing.

I mean . . .COME ON.

LOVE BOT?

Are you kidding?

Lemme ask you this. If, in the Firefly 'verse, there is the technology capable of making robots that can approximate a human female enough that they can serve as a 'love bot'. . .WHY. . .oh WHY do they still use SLAVES?

I wonder if in the "Serenity" 'verse (as opposed to the "Firefly" 'verse), the issue of slaves or indentured servants was too controversial, so they use advanced robotics instead?

==================================================
"Wash. . .we got some local color happening. A grand entrance would not go amiss."

I suppose because slaves are cheap labour, robots of any kind would be expensive equipment that would be unavailable to everyone in the galaxy.

Oh, I see. Huh. How 'bout that. So, how do "we" know this is accurate? I'm sure I missed something again...? Maybe I should go back to the "not-posting-stuff-Hell's Kitten"...

I think Universal Studios have their eyes on pubescent males; in the most commercial of senses. I'm told there's interest in that sort of thing in that demographic.
I wouldn't know, my memory's not that good these days

Or maybe STDs?
OT We don't hear anything of STDs in the 'verse, but I did wonder if Simon doesn't get it on with Kaylee because he can't think of an excuse to take a blood sample from our favourite Prairie Harpy.

OK, while I'm not totally convinced the thing is accurate, I don't understand why no one thinks that a bank job or a lovebot are probable. Given Joss' history with both, I don't see why either or both couldn't be true. OK, we've seen no bots of any kind on FF, but Buffy had both bank jobs (Flooded S6 and Him S7) and lovebots (I Was Made To Love You S5, Intervention S% and Bargaining S6). So they both seem possible, if not even probable.

"Prairie Harpy"???!!! "Prairie Harpy"?????!!!!

Oohh, better re-think your phraseology there, son. There ain't nothing "harpy" about Kaylee.

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

I'm sure no offense was meant to our loved Kaylee. Remember, that was the first thing Mal ever said about her. (Out of Gas. Watch it. Love it.) "And get your Prairie Harpy off my boat!" quickly became "She fixed it!" Our Kaylee has many talents and ain't ashamed of none of 'em!

"Is there any way I'm gonna get out of this with honor and dignity?"

Huh (Mal sort of "huh")-- didn't remember that-- have to go back and review the episode now-- never mind (slinks back to cave....).
