What the freak is it called?!?

I've looked since the episode aired, and so far all I have is that its by a dude called Sonny Rhodes. It's probably somewhere really obvious, and I'm just really missing it. But help me any way.

By the way, is it just me, or was Jewel Staite on some kind of Space-y show before? I seem to remember babysitting once, and seeing her with freaky rainbow hair, and... that's all.

So... Thanks.

Obscure Tv show reference: "Harry, it's Cooper, meet me for breakfast, 7:00 am, at the hotel lobby. I know who killed Laura Palmer. (Pause) No, this can wait till morning!"

I'm pretty sure it was composed for the show... but good luck trying to find it. Let us know if you do.

Jewel Staite was in Space Cases. She played Catalina with rainbow hair who talked to her "inivisible" friend from an invisibility planet. Zach, the first Black Ranger from Power Rangers was in it too.

I didn't catch it either, but I thought I saw Joss' name flash by for writing the theme song or something.

Hmm... interesting news: The theme was written and composed by Joss!

I don't know why this is surprising, really. He did compose the Buffy musical...

Wow, that *is* interesting, actually. Is it good then, the theme tune? I can't see Firefly yet 'cause I'm in England. Sob.

Well I liked it, but remember, I'm strange.

Seriously, the song itself is pretty standard blues. I thought the lyrics were cool, but I don't remember any of them...

Here's where I found out the singer:

http://www.stonyplainrecords.com/sprecord/newsletters.html#1

So I know who sings it, and who wrote it, and still not what its called. Arrgh. I'm a pirate.

I guess I'll just have to de-idiot myself, and watch for the title next week. But... being responsible is hard!

Hey, Morgan, look at it this way - you get to see Joss's new series for Tony Head before all of us on the other side of the pond! Be happy!

I found it linked somewhere on Fanforum and downloaded the theme; however, I really didn't like it that much. I can listen to pretty much anything except country tunes.

Here's the lyrics from Orbiting Lights, the new Firefly site under the Chosen Two banner ( http://www.chosentwo.com/firefly)

Take my love
Take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care if I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
Have no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me

All credit goes to Joss and the good people at the Chosen Two network of Joss sites.

Hmm...what should my signiture be?

Joss needs to stop with the song writing. I liked the Buffy musical as much as the next person, but the Firefly theme song is perhaps the hokiest thing I've heard since that country song about the guy that just wanted to make sure his dog got fed. You know the one? Yeah, hokier than that. Of course, knowing me, it'll get stuck in my head thanks to repeated viewings and I'll grow to love the damn thing. Joss is so evil.

The theme tune even has a banjo and fiddle! It's country through and through. Which is ironic since Joss Whedon was once said, “country music is the music of pain” Welp! it doesn’t come much more painful than this!

I think the lyrics basically mean, ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones but I’ve got a kick ass spaceship!’

Personally, I would have preferred the tune from Rawhide with the lyrics, 'Flyin’, flyin’, flyin’, Break from the Alliance, Keep them engines runnin’, Firefly...'

Oki, I've had too much wine

Actually, I think the theme song is very good. It ties the two genres the show is playing with, lifting off from the proverbial lonesome prarie into the final frontier. It's no Zebra Dunn, but it's not too terrible an attempt at the Cowboy genre.

I love the theme song. My guess on the title is
" You can't take the sky from me. "
When I saw the first episode I thought that this was very much like a post civil war western, such as, "The Outlaw Josie Wales".

Good actors, interesting concept, fabulous theme.
I'll keep watching.

You know, it's probably just called "Firefly Theme." Like the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer Theme" or "Angel Theme."

It is called "The Ballad of Serenity".

It is performed by Sonny Rhodes, but Joss Whedon Wrote the lyrics and composed it.

In fact, in the Extras section of the DVD's, it has Joss singing the original of it, as he wanted it performed for the show....

Is totally HOTT.

Hope it helps.

By the way, If you dont have it, and want it, I have it, and I also have a few Firefly Music Videos.

Talk at you laterz.

River: "No, I don't want to go! "
Simon: "It's ok.."
River: "It's not ok! You can't just dig into me, shove pointy needles in my eyes and ask me what I see!"
Simon: "All right. We won't go in. Look, no tests today."
River: "No running tests? Stupid son of a bitch, dressing me up like a gorram doll!"

I think the original poster had the words right. Kaylee often refers to space as 'The Black', I think other characters have used the term too.

The lyrics of the theme song (named "The Balled of Serenity") are the story of Mal during and now after the War.

Basically, "You can destroy my land, kill my family, drag me from my home, but you can't take the sky away, and that's enough for me."
