America loves a winner!

I was in Best Buys here in the ATL, and decided to check out the Sci-Fi TV section for DVD's. No Firefly, but I was able to ask ( corner) a cute sales associate and ask her if she knew where I might find the Firefly DVD. She said there WAS one there yesterday, ( one more sale made -yes!), but would check to see when more were coming in. She returned shortly to inform me more DVD's would be coming in this week, but they only come in 1 or 2 at a time. I glanced at the dozens of Babylon 5 , Andromeda and Farscape DVD's just SITTING there and suggested that they just MIGHT want to order a few more. She smiled politely (as in a " I don't know, I just work here" manner) and said she'd pass the idea along - yeah, whatever. All and all, a quite agreeable exercise.

Now, I know that some of y'all think that JUST BECAUSE we have our little movie coming out that we still can't be spreadin' the good word to all the fuzzy wuzzys out there in the 'verse. Me? I have another view at this all together....Never surrender, never give up. So, it's not original, but hey I bought some cool stuff too. What fun.

Maybe we should take to calling video shops and ask if they have it for sale like twice a week.

Ever since the Firefly DVD came out, everywhere I go to check and see if its in stock, the sales person always says they can't keep 'em on the shelf for more than a couple of days. The problem, it seems, is they only order a few at a time. Bam! they're gone, and they have to order some more. Meanwhile, all those other DVD's sit there and collect dust. You'd think that by NOW, after the movie anouncement and all, they'd get a clue and order...oh... 10 ? 20 ? at a time? I don't know, I don't work in the retail biz, but when I see some of the go se they have sitting there that will likely NEVER move, it does rattle the brain pan a bit.

Hey, it actually creates a buzz when you can't find it in stores. Folks say, "hey! we can't find this thing easily. It must be really cool for ppl to snatch it up so fast!" More buzz is good buzz!

Andromeda DVDs not moving? No surprise. Who'd but it anyway?

Farscape DVDs not moving? No surprise. Good series, but the sets are more overpriced than Star Trek.

Babylon 5 DVDs not moving? Now THAT is a surprise. Great series, and reasonably priced to boot. Must just have been that long since the release, I guess. I still need to get season 5 myself, actually.

Glad to hear FF is still moving, though.

I was pleasantly suprised that many of the stores I frequent recently started caring FireFly DVD sets.

Thinking about picking up another couple.

I don't care, I'm still free.

I might have made another convert, at a different board I noticed that this one person was a Joss whedon fan but didn't know about Firefly until I mentioned it to her. So she said she would check it out and I know once she does she will be "browncoated" for sure.

I always check at any video stores I go into. If there are no copies I always mention it to a salesperson.

My favorite store (not a large store) told me that they sold between 30-50 copies in the first month. BTW, they still keep at least one copy on the shelves at all times.

I had to stop and stare when I saw four copies on a shelf at Wal-Mart the other day. That was good to see. Mainstream credibility.

Important people don't do field work.

There it was, sitting on the bottom shelf of the new release section at the BX here at Osan Air Base here in Korea. I snagged the last copy. The next tuesday, there had to be more sitting out. By that weekend they were gone. Where are all these copies going? To my knowledge, I'm the only one in my circle of friends (Who are all Firefly fans now) who owns a copy. Whatever, they're being snapped up and reordered every week. Happily, Buffy and Angel are selling really well here too. My room mate has only seen a couple of episodes, and he already can't wait to see the movie. The word gets around, if not necessarily as quickly as we'd like it to. But, I do remember seeing that first copy. I stopped and sucked wind so hard that people were starting to stare. Just glad I didn't yell.

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I have made it a point to look in the DVD section of any store I go into for the Firefly DVD set and make sure that it is easily seen by any potential buyers. I will also suggest it to anyone I see looking through the sci fi section.

In the few occasions where I have not been able to find it, I will suggest to an employee that they buy it, pointing them to Amazon.com & other sites to show them the positive reviews and sales history.
