METALLISTEVE

Hello all,

...though I'd post a quick blurb about FireFly...if any of this is repetitive, pleae bear with me. I've only been on the site a few days now...excited that I *finally* found others to share FireFly with...

I used to watch FireFly off and on back when FOX had their head on straight and was airing the show. I normally don't watch any TV shows, so for one to catch my attention, it has to be incredible. Well, the show went away and I visited the FOX FireFly website a few times to see what was up...then just faded out of touch until recently. I was cruising across this site and saw the Amazon.com ad and I was blown away! First off, the FireFly DVD's were ranked 5 stars (and in the top 50)...second...FireFly was on DVD!!! I bought it a few days later and I'm just now finishing up watching them all. Since I didn't get to see the whole season, it completes FireFly in my mind...and it truly is one of the greatest shows/stories ever made.

The fact that the show is set in the distant future but it doesn't get too far-fetched is it's strong point. There are no crazy-looking aliens (other than the cow fetus ). The guns/weapons are just advanced versions of what we have today...granted, they shoot lasers, but no GI Joe colorful lasers streaking across the screen. The coolest part in my mind is implementing an old west feel to it all and justifying it with humans setting out to colonize new terra-formed planets...makes perfect sense! On a realism note, I'm thrilled that there are no sounds in the space scenes, like it should be. I yearn for the day that ALL movies and shows will understand this! The CG is also top-notch (for a TV show...and 99% of movies that I've seen) and highly detailed. The atmo flying scenes are great...especially the Reever chase in "Serenity."

If I was held at gun point and forced to find a not-so-good (I don't wanna say "bad") point of the show: the fact that some of the crew have military experience and/or gun-toting rogue experience and they still fire their weapons from the hip doesn't sit too well...but hardly affects the show.

The overall feel of the show is incredible...easy to relate to our life and times but still far off in a fantasy land. It twists my brain when I ask myself why FOX hiatus'ed (cancelled) the show. Maybe if the Hilton sisters made a guest appearance as slave cargo or something FOX would put it back on.

All in all, I can only hope that the show will get wind in it's sails once again after the movie. I'd much rather see a continuing series than one or two movies (just my humble opinion).

Nice little overview of the show there. I agree with pretty much all the points.

I think a fair few of us would like to see the show return as well as the movies but the general feeling from the cast/crew is that it wont be possible for a while due to some legal stuff with Fox, although if the film is successful there is option for sequels. Welcome to the boards.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site MetalliSteve. Hope to see you posting regularly w/ us.

Firefly is indeed a great show, and it is a shame it never got a fair shot on Fox. The DVD is an excellent investment & I never tire of watching mine.

LOL! I like the way you think. Nice quote by the way! You gotta see the show like five times to catch everything. Joss is awesome with details!
