Thankfully, this hasn't happened to our Firefly DVDs ... yet.

I'm watching Spy Kids with my son and over the course of the DVD the speech is going further and further out of synch ... close to a half second out by the end, it seems.

I didn't even know this was possible!

The DVD used to work perfectly ... does anyone have any ideas on what is wrong or what would need fixing?

Cheers,

does the disk need to be cleaned, or does it do anything different if you stop it and then restart back in the same section? Maybe the reader needs to be cleaned. could be the buffer isn't keeping up and stopping the play will clear it enough to go on with no problems.

Can anyone tell I do tech support?

OK ... dumb 'user' question then (which I'm guessing will be rhetorical): you mean there are *cleaners* for lasers? I didn't realise they had head-thingamagigies that VCRs.

Can you tell I'm a user?

(Thanks for the tips ... I'll check them out later when I've got a minute.)

My daughter creates/edits VOB files (the compression format used for movies). I have seen what you talked about, and assumed that it was due to the video and audio tracks being processed separately, and sometimes not so accurately lined up with 'cues'. I took one of her DVD's back to her in a huff, only to watch it play perfectly on her setup. ?)

Just sayin', if anybody knows why this happens, let me know--could be buffering, especially in graphics-intensive scenes. But I don't think it's the DVD itself, as the ones I was referring to had never been played before.

Jen dao mei.

Yes, there are. You can find them in any place that sells that kind of stuff like Wal-Marts etc...

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

I picked up the Firefly box set a week or so ago, after a friend had shown me some episodes that I liked enough to go get for myself. In my old budget KLH player, discs 1-2 wouldn't load at all, disc 3 would only load sometimes, and disc 4 worked ok. Since then I've installed a Lite-On LVW 5005, figuring that a versatile burner would be able to handle any weirdness that cropped up. BZZT. On disc 1, episode 3 won't play at all, and I get odd drops on other discs, usually with a flag that says "Protected Content." So I figured, it's Macrovision failing to correctly identify pirate copies again, and hack Macrovision out of my firmware. Still doesn't work.

Firefly is the only set of DVD's that gives me this problem, so I'm pretty sure it's an encoding issue. Unfortunately I don't know if I have my receipt from Border's anymore... :/
