Its for a free sim called orbiter. I havn't played orbiter in a while but its very accurate space flight sim.

Awesome! I don't think my pipe at home is big enough to download all those huge files, but I'll try it at work tomorrow.

Please help Haken keep this site running by occasionally clicking on some of the sponsored ad links on the side of the page!

Try using a program like getright. You can use it to start and stop your DL with out losing your DL's progress.

Ok install it as per the instructions on the offical orbiter site. Now you may need to manualy install the ship. Win Zip Wizerd the file to your desktop and drag the contents in to the correct folder. Now start the "launch pad" program and search for the Scenarios for the firefly.

Now to learn to fly in orbiter try the tutoral on dan's orbiter page:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/

BTW Orbiter is very hard I'm a smart guy but I couldn't get far beyond Earth orbit in a Soyuz or going to the moon in on of the ships from 2001.

I received an email from a person here but they didn't have their messaging active, so here is a bump for this thread.

Cool! Finally got it downloaded and installed. Now WHO'S FLYING THIS THING!!!!!

So, does the main (rear) engine always fire whenever you want to initiate the side jets/rockets?

Yes the rear engine allways lights up but it dosn't really fire untill you press the O key that opens up the pannels.

Cool! Just to nitpick though... isn't Serenity a Firefly Mark III? In Serenity, Kaylee asks Book if he's ever sailed in a Firefly before. He responds: "Long before you were crawling. Not a Mark III though, didn't have the extenders." At least that's how I remember it.

Likes to mess with stuffs.

This is so cool. Can I post this in features and make your file available for download? That way we don't have to keep bumping this thread. If you want, you can do a little write up of what's involved in creating your Firefly transport.

Woha hold on there, I'm a fairly good 3D modeler but it ain't mine, I just found it (well my friend found it and I posted it here).

Ask the creator Jon Marcure; jtmarcure (at] hotmail.com

if you can post it here.

I have to say, the graphics for the Firefly ship are incredible! It's very well done. Now, if only I could figure out how to fly the gorram thing....lol

Haken have you had any luck in contacting the maker of the Firefly model and geting it as a feature on this site? I looked though the readme and it said:

Quote:

Support questions and comments. I will monitor the AVSIM Orbiter forum for questions and comments. I will not guarantee that I will answer questions in any other forums.

So if you don't hear anything by email you could try the fourm at http://avsim.com/ or the offical orbiter fourm at http://orbit.m6.net/v2/boardtalk.asp (I know its been mentioned there).

Thanks. It kinda ruined the sleek, aerodynamic lines flying around with that monstrosity attached to Serenity's nose. ;)

Gunrunner -

Thanks so much for the link and info! I've translated it into the Neverwinter Nights project, and posted a screenshot here:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/sunroomitem.asp?i=1408

Appears to be Freeware, according to Jon Marcure's text file, so I'm going ahead with this. If anyone needs help with a gmax translation of the Orbiter model, let me know (I've got one).

Very shiny work Forrestwolf, it kind of makes me wish I was in to RPGs. Glad I could help with your project.

Now if someone would only make a mod for a game I play!

Hmm....if I ever have a SHUTTLE that's any good in NWN, I'll be sure to translate it over to Orbiter. I've got those tools. Perhaps I can help you that much :)

Meanwhile, I need to try out Orbiter myself. Really, really looks like fun to fly a Firefly. Me, I'm stuck walking around outside/inside the thing :)

I have GMAX and I've done some modeling of Submarines (the VS Magazine did a review of one of the boats I co-created: http://www.static-lift.net/~vsshipyard/vs_magazine/issue_20/page_06.ht
m
and http://www.static-lift.net/~vsshipyard/vs_magazine/issue_20/page_07.ht
m
) and Warships so a spacecraft shouldn't be to much of a change. The only things I can't do is Map or Texture (I could learn Orbiter config files if I put my mind to it), so if you feel like doing those parts we could team up and create a good shuttle, Interor and all.

What ya say?

Ack! You think I can actually use this stuff? This weekend was my first use of GMax - figured out just enough to translate the Orbiter model over. It was already textured. I've got some good tutorials on texturing in Gmax for NWN that I can try and understand, if we want to try this - OR I can get a great NWN modeller on the job - he's offered. I guess I'd say that if you've got a mesh, without a texture, he just might texture it for us. I'll go ask, actually.

I'm very tempted, Gunrunner, but I wonder if I'm good enough...hopefully Demigog (the person I'm talking about) IS.

Well if you got someone on the line whose familer with your game I'm ok with having him do it. If for some reason that person can't I'm avaliable.

And if you want help making it in to an orbiter ship I'll gladly help.

Oh and GMAX is easy, one you learn how to alter the Mesh of simple geometric shapes you can create anything. There is a lot of options and buttions but you only need a 10th of them to actualy create something. Its all about tecnique you don't need to learn everything the program can do.
