PHNIX25

Hello Browncoats-

I fell in love with Firefly when my brother gave me the best Christmas present a girl could ever ask for (the DVD set), but I'm totally new to the boards and I was hoping someone tell me what some of the abbriviations were? Like OB?

Thanks!

OB means Official Board or in my opinion Other Board. This is home & that's official enough for me.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board Phnix25. It is great to have you with us. We are always happy to have another browncoat aboard.

As StillShiny says, OB is short for "Official Board" which is the Prospero board that Fox uses for the TV show. The site is still up, but not telling for how much longer. It has been shut down once and only reopened due intervention on the part of ME (Mutant Enemy).

Hope you enjoy your time here as much as we do.

The url for the OB is: http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/start

The OB is fairly confusing to navigate, but does have one advantage over this board in that if you register and log in, it will show you which messages are new since your last visit. Or something like that. That does make following long discussions easier since I don't have to re-read messages trying to remember where I left off.

Of course, I could be completely missing a similar feature here.

Oh yeah, "Welcome!"

Hi and welcome.

I've not been posting here long either so am just learning all the abbreviations and stuff myself.

Here's a few:

OB - official board. http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/messages

This is the official Fox firefly board. Which is a board that is more than a little confusing but Adam Baldwin, Nathan Fillion and the Mutant Enemy (company who make the Joss Whedon productions) president post on there from time to time. It's not as good as here though so please don't leave

BDM - the Big Damn Movie - this refers to the Firefly movie currently being filmed.

Um I can't think of any others right now.

Oh yeah:

ME - Mutant Enemy
BDH - Big Damn Heroes - often used to refer to the cast and crew
FFF.net - this website

It's the non-firefly specific ones that I have trouble with like IMHO - which as far as I can tell means 'in my humble opinion'. It takes me forever to work these out.

Anyway. Sorry this wasn't the most helpful.

ps. Edited to say 'Oops sorry I was a bit slow with my reply. I think quite a few people beat me to it.'

Thought of some more:

Episode titles:

OOG - Out of Gas
HoG - Heart of Gold
OIS - Objects in space

JW - Joss Whedon
FF - Firefly
CD - Compact disc
TV - television
ID - identification....
Ok (okay) maybe I should stop now.

Again, not very helpful but here you go anyway.

Yes, you are.
When you go to a thread, there is a box on the left titled LATEST POSTS. Under the words "SINCE YOUR LAST VIEW:" is a list of the users (with date & time) that have posted since you last read that thread. Just click on the top one and it takes you to the first post that you haven't read yet.

Still Shiny!

You stole my quote! Which I actually stole from someone else.

It's like my Grandma always said, "if your not cheating, your not trying."

'Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the road less traveled by and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN' SHOW. I totally shoulda took the road that had all those people on it. Damn.'

and let me guess, you probabaly stole it from angeldove who I swear stole it from me, but I have no way to back it up. But hey there's enough to go around.

All I can say is I read it on a letter from Joss when Angel was cancelled and copied it from there.

Ner the less it is a rather shiny statement wouldn't you agree?

It is one of the wittiest things I've heard anyone ever say. Can anyone name the poem or the author Joss is paraphrasing???

The Poem Joss is paraphrasing is called The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. here is the poem

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

hope that helps, StillShiny
