CHRONOS

I just watched the movie 'Ghost of Mars' again and the possesed miners in the movie are exactly like Reavers. Self mutilations, hanging decapitated bodies from the ceiling, completely wild and homicidal. I think Joss got more than a bit inspired by this movie. I suggest anybody who wants to see more of the Reavers to watch it. (Written and directed by John Carpenter and starring Natasha Henstridge and Ice Cube)

Chronos, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. They might have some similarities to reavers, but it isn't worth watching this movie for. Ghosts of Mars is a terrible remake of Rio Bravo set in space. The acting is wooden, the action is dull, and the sets are less than stunning. I really wanted to like this movie, as I was trying to avoid statements of "Carpenter's lost his touch," but after this I have to say that the man lost the magic.

If you want to see a GOOD remake of Rio Bravo written and directed by John Carpenter, I suggest you check out Assault on Precinct 13 (1976). It's a superior film, although some people may be turned off by how "70's" it is.

Hey I like the '70s. *puts on the theme song from SWAT*

Ummm anyhow, I was thinking about this a while back and thought that the Reavers in my head were kinda like the crazy things in Ghosts of Mars. Which means they probably bear little to no resemblence at all except to tell people who are just getting into Firefly what Reavers could be like, I say kinda like the Ghosts of Mars but cooler.

That seems to work. As a movie on it's own it was so-so. And this is coming from a guy that loves Starship Troopers so take that as ya will...

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I have not seen the Ghosts of Mars as of yet, and honestly have been waiting for Sci Fi to show it on TV instead of renting it. With the mixed feelings I see here, I am glad I have waited.

but the reavers were people at one point, right? the zombies in that movie were possessed by some kind of alien spirits, as i recall. no offense to anyone who liked that movie, but what a dud.
