Hey Im new to this site maybe ya'll know this but does anyone know if the movie is a continuation or a summary of the first season? Im assuming it's a continuation. (I hope!) Also, im really hoping the Mal being dead thing is a joke or atleast something to throw us off!

I believe the movie is set around 6 months after the last episode of the TV series.

Hey, Joss loves messing with the audiance about life and death issues. In the pilot he let us think Kaylee had died and didn't let us know Zoe was wearing armor when she got shot (and that was just the first two hours of the show!).

Who knows what his comment meant, but I'm sure it fits in really well with the story line somehow...

There is no way that Joss would just tell us about such a scene if it actually existed. This is the guy who, when asked about the Angel ep he was doing, called it a "setback," for Fred. He's kidding.

At one of the cons he made comments about muppets and Angel. Everyone thought he was joking - he wasn't!

Don't kill Mal? Joss already killed him!

War Stories, end of third act body guard says "he's dead" and Niska gets this dissaponted look. beginning of fourth act Niska says "You died Captain Reynolds." to which Mal gasps "Yeah, seemed like the thing to do."

now, maybe you were hoping that he wouldn't be dead dead, but keep in mind that this is the man who killed his hero at the end of the first season (Buffy) and had another hero who was technically dead long before his show even started (Angel). Death is prolly not going to be the huge setback we all expect it to be

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

First and foremost, welcome to the board Phoenixrise83. Glad to have another new fan w/ us.

What we have heard so far put the movie taking place six months after the events in Objects in Space, the last episode. Inara has left the ship by this point (as she said she would in Heart of Gold) and Mal has become dark and brooding.

As for the Mal thing, you never can tell w/ Joss. Could be his warped sense of humor, could be a dream sequence, or it could be a flashback. No telling really. I doubt if Mal dies that it will be permanent, similar to the events in War Stories.

On the Mal dying thing

Joss says things that aren't so
Joss says things that are so but seem unlikely
Joss isn't about to give away any critital plot points to the movie he's pouring his life into.

All in all I think Joss is just spewing rumours to get us talking (he seems to have been successful) but I'm personally not worrying too much about Mal's lifespan.

but it's good to start planning for April 22nd

Wow! thank you all so much for your comments it was great! All of those points were valid and i didnt even consider thinking it was a flash back. i was so hyped at the fact that the firefly story would continue that it didnt enter my mind the fact that Mal has died once (and that Buffy has a bunch of times) Thanks again!
