There are forces in the 'verse that simply should not be tampered with, ThisLand. I can't go into details of quantum physics and Universal Laws here, but the collection of those 3 heavenly bodies in near proximity toward each other would be....well, to quote the famous parapsychology professor, aka Ghostbuster, Egon Spengler..." It would be bad "

If Amy and/or Allyson were like River, only not crazy and confused......and actually hunting her, that would be an interesting day!

And didn't Mal die moments after Bendis at Serenity Valley making the whole show a St Elsewhere clone? Nah...it's just Joss jossin' with us. Besides how many times can they kill Mal before we meet the real him?

Guys, this is the same Joss who, during S5 Buffy, said (on different occasions):

-Tara is not Evil.
-Tara is Evil.
-Tara is a Weevil.

Do not trust him!

April 22. Awe-ruttin-some. Now, if I just had a 2005 calendar to mark up, I'd be in business.

Death isn't necessarily death on this show, obviously. Simon and River had to "die" to get into the hospital. Mal has been near death. As long as he has Simon nearby to bring him back, or perhaps even River, he'll be around for the next movie.

ok every one's freaking out over this thing of "mal's death". 2 things to remember, this IS joss, so yeah, could be a big joke just to mislead/screw with us(anyone ever see the posts after season either 2, or 3 of buffy that the following season was going to be all goats all the time?)
but remember even though it's not the "buffyverse", it is still joss and mutant enemy, who have never had a hard time killing a main character( buffy, joyce,angel, spike, cordelia, fred, etc...)

Makes one wonder...

If the show had been allowed to live out it's natural lifespan, it almost seems like someone would have eventually died.
We all understand that Firefly ain't Buffy or Angel, but still, I think thatjust as there is a completely different flavor between Buffy/Angel and Firefly there is also a similar flavor, and I think that Joss likes to reflect realistic situations(as best as a Fantasy or Sci-Fi can reflect reality.)
9 people on a ship the 'verse gunnin' for them, I am sure someone might have been hurt worse than could be fixed.
Now I am not saying that is a fact, but just look at other Whedon creations, then look at their first season, then look at the last season.

However, I am glad that it is going to a movie, this will change the rules a small bit, at least as I see it.

As others have said, but alarmingly others are still not sure, the 'death of Mal' is clearly a joke. 100% certain. Joss loves giving out false spoilers, but would never give out a real one, especially one of such magnitude. Anyone who did not get the joke should be forced to buy a ticket to Serenity for everybody they know. In fact, for everyone they've ever met. And for me.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I think the best part of this weekend was when I told my son & daughter about the movie release date and how excited they got when they heard the news. They took the calendar off the wall & marked the date down on the 2005 calendar in my den.

Invite to any of you Browncoats that live out of the country, if Universal doesn't release the BDM worldwide and you are so inclined to travel to the US, I have room for about a dozen sleeping bags in my living room, which is located in St. Petersburg, Florida (the rest of the house is located there too). Unless I do something wacky and travel to California for the premier, in which case I'll leave the keys under the mat.

Excitedly counting the days!

Not a chance in hell.

While Firefly is a great show, and Serenity will be a great movie…but if you think about it no one really knows about it but a handful of geeks. No way it's going to compete with Ep III where we get to see the birth of Darth Vader.

My prediction…Ep III will make more money in its first weekend than Serenity will make its entire run. I've got money to back up any bets people want to place.

Ok I'm new to the Firefly world. I love Star Trek and I like Firefly almost as much. I think that the FOX company are a bunch of FOOLS by the way they treated FF. I hope to see another six sesons of FF. But one thing as I was reading what Joss said "Today was (as I think you know) the first day of filming of Serenity. Which is pretty big for me (it felt weird to START with Mal's death...)" Now as far as I'm know is that it will not be the same with out Mal, that is like cutting off the head and expecting the body to servive. Anyway, Live long and prosper Firefly and Joss

Here's how it is... for those who are saying the movie can't start with Mal's death, because Adam Baldwin said it will start with a scene about river, there may be something you guys are missing. Movies are almost never shot i their chronological order. Joss clearly says "scheduling" (not story lines) is not his area. In movies when a particular set is constructed every scene using that set is filmed and then they move on to the next set and disassemble the first so maybe it's that the first set being built is also the one where Mal's death will be shot. So both statements (Joss's and Adam's) can be true because they don't conflict with each other. Fear not fellow browncoats i don't think he will be dying in the first movie especially since they want to try for a sequel and eventually a trilogy. It could be a future scene that never happens, or one that has to be prevented, or how about the possibility of a dream sequence where something that can't possibly happen (like our fearless captain sucking the final big lemon) happens then someone in the movie wakes up (ala princess buttercups wedding to humperdink in the Princess Bride) and realizes it was only a dream. Rivers dream perhaps. There are so many ways it could go it's certain to be something we didn't expect. And if he should die, remember, it's not his first time (War Stories,Out of Gas) and I'm sure in the immortal words of Arnie, " He'll be back"
April is locked and i am going to shoot for at least four showings (me personally not counting all my friends and whatever random strangers i can drag in off the street) of Serenity during opening week.

Alright, I can't just lurk any more (first post), I have to weigh in with my two cents here.

First of all: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
YAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAY

::does the dance of joy::

Alright, now that I got that out of my system, my 2 cents on the Mal's death bit. I suspect that Joss is doing something truly evil here, telling us the truth, just not the whole truth. I suspect that at some point (although now that I think about this, it's been done before and is rather cliche, but fits) Mal will fake his own death to avoid someone or another. Maybe get some time with the Alliance off his back or something. But anyways, this would allow for a death scene without the seemingly necisary death. Just my 2 cents here, seems like something Joss would do based upon the misdirection seen in his series.

Well as I am sure as has been pointed out before, death is not the handicap it used to be.

Personally I don't think they killed off Mal, because he died already. He got over it, but still, he was there, did that, and has the t-shirt.

I don't think so, and I am willing to bet as high as a nickle.

The Star Wars franchise has gone down hill steadily these last few movies. I mean Jar Jar Binks? Give me a break. The last two have been pretty bad. And I don't think the next one will make nearly that much at the box office.

Plus. despite the fact that only a "handful of geeks" know about it now, doesn't mean we geeks are gonna keep our mouth shut. The best advertising for a movie is word of mouth. And also, because it is sci fi, but NOT Star Wars, I think that is going to be a big plus.

I think you're the only one that noticed the invite, guess you get the living room all to yourself, ha ha. My e-mail is realflygal@hotmail.com, just keep that in a Palm Pilot somewhere in case it becomes necessary. I'll be hoping for a worldwide release so all the Browncoats can see it "together" but if not, at least you have a place on the 22nd. Where do you live?

Hot Damn!!

If I could buy my tickets this far in advance, I would buy out one full showing and invite everyone I know!!! And after those 5 people, I would invite everyone here!!

Mal's death doesnt phase me. Joss has said worse things, only to be proven untrue. {Ya gotta read inbetween the lines with him}

There is one thing I wish to say, however... let us not get our hopes TOO high. I know I will like the movie no matter what... but that is only because I am not thinking its going to blow me away with story, visual effects and acting. It is only when we have built up a movie to some unattainable level that we get all disappointed. Matrix 1 was great, the follow ons, not so great as we wanted that same OMG feeling.

{Dont look at me like that... I am NOT saying that Serenity is going to suck}

April 22nd is a great date. Its after all the early spring romantic comedies and before the early summer action flicks. Yes, dates can change, but they can also be static.

So... in closing, let me just say ...

Juh jen sh guh kwai luh duh jean jan!!!

Thank you, good night!

Okay with the whole "Mal's Death" thing. Everyone does realize movies are filmed out of order right? Because it seems because Joss said it's being filmed first, everyone is assuming it's at the beginning of the movie. Which is not necessarily true. Hence why Joss made the comment about scheduling not being his area.

Also we have seen Joss kill main characters off more then once. He has done it in his other shows. He's not afriad to do it hehehe.

It also isn't the first time he has said major spoilers about something just to get the fans talking, and to get word out on his projects. Great idea cause it makes people sit on the edge of their seat when the show/movie actually does air.

Then again you never know it is the great JW who is doing this. He could be lying just to get us interested and sitting on the edge of our seats in the movie always on edge (like what said before).

All we can really do is sit and wait ^^
