Being a lucky UK type bugger, I got to view all of Firefly in it's correct-order glory (with those unaired episodes too), which was nice. So, fifteen episodes and numerous rewatching after they were shown. And not once did I think they were flying about in one single solar system.

I'd always interepted Book's constant use of the word 'system' to mean a more conceptual governmental system, and that people at it's edge were people who kind of slipped out from under the Alliance's radar and beyond their reach (for most of the time, that is). I can't see how it would work any other way; Mal's already said that they terraformed a whole new galazy of Earths, they refer to the world they live in as the 'Verse and not the System, and they have a stonking great space ship that can cross interstellar space!

Or, at least, that's how I'm seeing it. Anyone wanna try and tell me why I've got the 'Verse all wrong?

I tend to agree with the galaxy theory, as a solar system with over 70 earth like planets/moons would be insane! My personal model of the galaxy has 8 systems: Londinium and Sihnon begin central (containing the top planets, including Sihnon and Londinium), 2 systems which come at a similar distance to the two, and then 4 frontier-like systems further out. Anything beyond that being unchartered reaver territory.
