There is an update on the status of Browncoats: Independence War
that I wanted to pass along:

Ah, yes, time...and money.
Just a couple of the challenges faced by independent/fan film makers.
So I'm including an update from the creator of Browncoats: Independence War:

The funds are for the expenses which cannot be bargained with (insurance, fees, permits, etc).
Everything else we've managed to get for free. :D

Browncoats: Independence War has met its goal,
tho' there are a few hours to go if anyone was holding off on pledging
until it looked like it would succeed.

Good, bad or indifferent, I'm a booster of Firefly fan films;
especially those that grow the 'verse
(outside of the, "older ship, crew as found family, hard-scrabble life,
character with an opposite sex name, folks got secrets, etc", model)
and I think this is going to be a good one.

I'm kinda glad they're covering a piece of the war. It seems like all the other projects are trying the post-war "smugglers" storylines, so it'll give them something different to work with.

Was the kickstarter the only way to get a copy of the movie or will there be other donation opportunities?

And to answer my own year old question, B:IW recently launched another fundraising campaign to cover some post production costs as well as to give fans another shot at getting a copy of the movie. I'm looking forward to this one.

This is awesome news and I'm excited to hear it! I missed out on the chance to contribute but I love fan projects, especially films, and am so looking farward to the chance to watch this one. The creators seem so dedicated to it.

BIG NEWS. The film is DONE. Yes, unbelievable but it is true. We've been breaking our backs for months on post production problems and issues, but finally, it's here. Emails and notifications have been sent to all the backers. They get FIRST SHOT at the film, being folks who helped us financially get this thing off the ground! Woo hoo.

More announcements to be made, but we made it just under the wire, literally. 2015 was the 10th anniversary of the film Serenity .... and we release the digital version today to a select audience, making it officially a 2015 release.

More information to come, but it's time to pop some champagne! For all of our fans who missed the crowdfunder campaigns, there will be more info on screenings and the like at a later time. You have not been forgotten. But now, let us celebrate that the film has been released to the first group - our wonderful and faithful and patient backers on the various crowdfunding campaigns.

We also discussed our upload strategy. A 96 minute full length high def feature film is an enormous file, and we want you to have the best quality version we can get you. We will be uploading the file behind a password protected site and an email will go out to backers to get their hands on the copy as soon as the file is uploaded and verified. We'll do the upload from a super fast internet location - turns out it would take 13 days from Francis' house. I ain't waiting that long! It will take about 30 minutes from a faster connection.

Once it's all set, you'll be able to grab some popcorn, sit back, and settle in for a real treat of a story.
