Okay. . .I'm getting my office and classroom set up for next year. My office is already set up. . .got my little aquarium bubbling away behind my desk with my Betta (Siameese fighting fish) named "Jayne" and my Blackmoor fantail goldfish named "Book". . .

I've decided to get a hamster for the classroom.

Any suggestions for names?

Wash.

(Actually, I've got a Siberian Dwarf hamster named Simon. It seems to suit him pretty well.)

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Hamster? It would have to be Wash or Simon.

If you're going to name something after Wash, it should be a goose. Preferably a baby one.

There was a set of photoshopped pictures - I think it was on Something Aweful - that photoshoped movie posters. My favorite was "Hampster and Commander". It had this huge hampster looking out over the ocean above the ship from "Master and Commander." If I had a hampster, that's what I'd name him: Hampster and Commander.

How about Crow? Cuz, you know, if that hamster ever goes bad, you can kick him into a high-speed fan or engine or something.

If not that, then I'd think the name Simon would be a natural choice, considering they're both soft, meek, and somewhat oblivious.

If its a hamster, you HAVE to name it Simon, don't you? And if anyone asks why he's named Simon, you say that you named him for a doctor who will reattach a girl's leg 500 year in the future.

I've had two Siberian dwarf hamsters. The first one I called Lobo (after the comic) since when I held my hand above the box he and his nestmates were in, he jumped up and bit me in the hand. While I was away on practical training period in Scotland, She-who-shall-remain-nameless didn't close the cage very well one night and adventurous, you-can't-scare-me Lobo met my parents' cat. His demise was painful and slow... poor thing. He didn't get et.

My Mom (she-who-felt-guilty) got me another one before I returned home and called it Scotty. For me having been to Scotland and such. Scotty got stepped on by me couple of months later but lived to the ripe old age of nearly three years, which is pathetically long for Siberians.

I would call a hamster Reaver. Just to scare my six cats.

What do you teach to whom, Static?

what wildheavenfarm said.

duh, ya have to name hamsters simon from now on.

yes it will get confusing when all the hamsters in the world are named simon so we'll have to add adjectives. you know, like fluffy simon, or brown simon, or simon who runs very fast on the spinning wheel.
you get the idea.

Ah, a Dangermouse reference! My sister actually had a hamster named Penfold when we were younger. (And my dad, who didn't want to swear in front of his daughters, used "Crumbs, DM," on tennis courts for years.)
