I saw this very same moment in Shrek 3. Charming stabs Shrek, misses, Shrek pretends to be stabbed. Wash is Shrek, Reavers are Prince Charming. Wash's ribs were grazed by the Reavers' harpoon and he fainted because of pain. He is such a wimp that I wonder why Zoe married him. Maybe because of his Tudyks?

It's pretty clearly center of chest. But, if you REALLY want to make that work, the harpoon could have an empty core and retractable tip, and Wash and the Reavers set it up for a practical joke on Zoe and the crew.

Or maybe the retractable harpoon tip is intended to jolt the heart and knock someone unconscious just long enough for anyone who might help them to abandon them, and then the Reavers retrieve them. We never see Wash in the chair after that, or any damage to the chair. Maybe Wash came to and ran, and he's lost somewhere out in the wilderness on Mr. Universe's moon. A bearded Wash in a loincloth and his volley ball "T-rex" he shared all his hilarious adventures with finds their way back seven years later by hitchhiking on an Alliance repair crew ship.

Very good. Needs one more ingredient: amnesia. Wash doesn't know that he was married. Zoe will have to teach him about love. That pitter-patter is the sound of my heart as I contemplate the beauty of Zoe/Wash stories about them renewing their vows.
