This is the perfect song for Mal and all he's been through...some of it could even refer to him and Inara.

Its called Fallen and its by Sarah McLachlan

Quote:

Heaven bent to take my hand
And lead me through the fire
Be the long awaited answer
To a long and painful fight

Truth be told I've tried my best
But somewhere along the way
I got caught up in all there was to offer
And the cost was so much more than I could bear

Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I have messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

We all begin with good intent
Love was raw and young
We believed that we could change ourselves
THe past could be undone
But we carry on our backs the burden
Time always reveals
The lonely light of morning
The wound that would not heal
It's the bitter taste of losing everything
That I have held so dear.

I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I have messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

Heaven bent to take my hand
Nowhere left to turn
I'm lost to those I thought were friends
To everyone I know
Oh they turned their heads embarassed
Pretend that they don't see
But it's one missed step
You'll slip before you know it
And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed

Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I have messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

Its really pretty (maybe too pretty for Mal's character) but the words are perfect

MAL: This is my scrap of nowhere. You go on and find your own.
SAFFRON: You can't just leave me here, on this
lifeless piece of crap moon...
MAL: Sure I can.
SAFFRON: I'll die.
MAL: Well, as a courtesy, you might start
getting busy on that, cause all this chatter ain't doin' me any kindness.

Good one there. I can see that for Mal.

And of course so as to not let Jayne be shortchanged, here's the perfect Jayne Cobb song!

"Behind Blue Eyes"

No one knows what it’s like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

And no one knows
What it’s like to be hated
To be fated to telling only lies

But my dreams they aren’t as empty
As my conscious seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That’s never free

No one knows what its like
To feel these feelings
Like I do, and I blame you!

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain woe
Can show through

But my dreams they aren’t as empty
As my conscious seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That’s never free

Discover L.I.M.P say it (x4)
No one knows what its like
To be mistreated, to be defeated
Behind blue eyes

No one know how to say
That they’re sorry and don’t worry
I’m not telling lies

But my dreams they aren’t as empty
As my conscious seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That’s never free

No one knows what its like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes.

It's by the Who, but Limp Bizkit did it better in my opinion. Which probably makes me a heretic, but hey, I'm fine with that.

"Oh hey, I got an idea. Instead of us hanging
around playing art critic till I get pinched by
the Man, how's about we move away from this
eerie-ass piece of work and get on with our
increasingly eerie-ass day, how's that?"

I guess you can't grow a big black mustache now...you aren't a traditionalist.

i like Limp Bizkit's version better too

that makes for a total of two songs i like by them...the other being a remixed version of the Mission Impossible Theme song.

This might work for Kaylee thinking about Simon...maybe for a future fight? or something of that nature.

if the gender was switched the other way, I'd say it was about River though.

Quote:

Beautiful Disaster By Kelly Clarkson

He drowns in his dreams
An exquisite extreme I know
He's as damned as he seems
And more heaven than a heart could hold
And if I try to save him
My whole world could cave in
It just ain't right
It just ain't right

Oh when I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful,
Or just a beautiful disaster?

His magical myth
As strong as what I believe
A tragedy with
More damage than a soul should see
And do I try to change him?
So hard not to blame him
Hold on tight
Hold on tight

Oh cuz I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful,
Or just a beautiful disaster?

I'm longing for love and the logical
But he's only happy hysterical
I'm waiting for some kind of miracle
Waitin' so long
So long

He's soft to the touch
But frayed at the end he breaks
He's never enough
And still leaves more than I can take
Oh cuz I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful,
Or just a beautiful disaster?

He's beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster

Bah, Anthony Stewart Head ("Giles") did it better then either of them, on Buffy, and in character, no less.

Just wish I could find a version without Xander, Anya, Willow, and Tara talking over him.

And, my suggestion: for Zoe (to Wash).

To The Moon and Back
by: Savage Garden

She's taking her time making up the reasons
To justify all the hurt inside.
Guess she knows from the smiles and the look in their eyes,
Everyone's got a theory about the bitter one
They're saying:

Mama never loved her much
And daddy never keeps in touch.
That's why she shies away from human affection,
But somewhere in a private place,
She packs her bags for outer space,
And now she's waiting for the right kind of pilot
To come (and she'll say to him).

She's saying:
I would fly to the moon and back
If you'll be, if you'll be my baby.
Got a ticket for a world where we belong
So would you be my baby?
(Ooh-ooh)

She can't remember a time
When she felt needed.
If love was red then she was colour-blind.
All her friends they've been tried for treason,
And crimes that were never defined.

She's saying:
Love is like a barren place
And reaching out for human faith is,
Is like a journey I just don't have a map for.
So baby gonna take a dive and push the shift to overdrive.
Send a signal that she's hanging all her hopes
on the stars.
(What a pleasant dream). Just saying:

(CHORUS x2)

Mamma never loved her much
And daddy never keeps in touch.
That's why she shies away from human affection,
But somewhere in a private place,
She packs her bags for outer space,
And now she's waiting for the right kind of pilot
To come. (and she'll say to him)
She's saying:

(REPEAT CHORUS TWICE)

Kinda doesn't matter what her history was; it fits.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I can imagine this playing softly in the background, just after Inara has told Mal she is leaving in "Heart of Gold."

How Can We Hang On To A Dream?
by Tim Hardin

What can I say? She's walking away from what we've seen.
What can I do, still loving you?
It's all a dream.
How can we hang on to a dream?
How can it really be the way it seems?
What can I do? She's saying we're through with how it was.
What will I try? I still don't see why she says what she does.
How can we hang on to a dream?
How can it really be the way it seems?
What can I say? She's walking away from what we've seen.
What can I do, still loving you?
It's all a dream?
How can we hang on to a dream?
How can it really be the way it seems?
How can we hang on to a dream?
