Hey everyone! Let's schedule a shindig of our very own that EVERYONE who's of a mind to can attend!

For food, I hereby volunteer to bring a bushel of steamed jumbo Maryland Blueclaw crabs and a case of Coors light as my offering to the buffet able. What would you like to bring? Something from your region? Or just your favorite dish? All food is welcome!

I suggest we ask Cageybee if the band she is starting up can be the entertainment. Any leftover food can be thrown at them! (riot!)

When do we want to have it? I can't do it this weekend (Memorial Day), but next weekend is good for me--June 4th,5th and 6th (And the weekend after that. And after that. As is any other weekend until infinity and beyond, but that's a long Gunhand-type story).

What do you think? (*hopes to hear the sound of no crickets chirping*)

I'm not too particular about the time and I volunteer to bring chips and dip. I make a killer salsa fresca and a from scratch onion dip. Oh, and a bag of limes and a case od Coronas.

You know, if you REALLY wanted to make a virtual shindig work, we could get everyone to log into a IM chat room (or the chat here at FFF.net) and have them all start watching the same episode(s) at the same time. Then we could commence with the funny commentary at the appropriate times. Whuddaya think?

I Vote aim chatroom! That would be kick ass fun!

So, for all you people who don't have AOL, go to www.aim.com and from this website you can download aim(Aol Instant Messanger) for free. They don't ask for your credet card or anything, and it won't mess up your computer at all.

So yeah, go onward and download the Aim-y goodness!

THEN we'll talk online shindig!

Chatrooms confuse me but I'm willing to try.

And I'll bring, hmmm...dunno yet. But it's a good idea Mal-icious, one time I was away I had a video conference virtual birthday party, that was fun telling people on a little screen to do another shot. Hehehe.

Next weekend is bad for me. My graduation is on the 8th, so that whole weekend will be manic preparation, running across town repeatedly, and trying to justify to relatives why I have no ("real") job yet ('cause writing doesn't count, on account of it not being an abusive, soul-crushing torture that pays millions per week).

AYep. Good point.

Maryland Blue Crabs? Most of the crabs you buy in Maryland now come from Louisiana.

Hmmm, how about some really fine Triple Bock beer and a huge wheel of Stilton Cheese and some fresh French Bread? Not Maryland-y but maybe some crabcakes on the side would help.

That's going to take more than a few beers, Mal-licious. Although I hear they're supposed to be pretty good sauted in butter with a little garlic. I'm on a no bug diet right now, though.

If we really want to make this accessible to everyone, we probably ought to have it monthly or something, so no one feels left out. Like, the first tuesday of every month or whatever. And publicize it over at the OB and fireflymovie.com and browncoats.com and everywhere else. Could put a schedule up with which episode which month, and how to get to the chat room, etc. I'm just an idea man -- someone go work out the details. < mal > Do it now! < / mal > ;)

So I can watch Firefly with y'all and you can watch my typing skills degrade as the booze kick in in a celebratory fashion.

Oh, jeez, that does it. We are in for it!

And I am definitely not the person to set up ANYTHING even remotely computer related, but here goes: TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 2004, GUNHAND'S BIRTHDAY, WE WILL ATTEMPT TO HAVE A MASS FIREFLY EPISODE VIEWING-WHILE-CHATTING THINGY. I go to bed really early on school, I mean WORK nights of course, so what time is good for you people? I'm on the east coast so...8:00 eastern daylight time ok? Also, what ep? If we do the obvious thing and watch Serenity, it can only be the first hour for me! But that's ok! Think this will work?

If you're on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), then Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) is 4 hours behind you - as opposed to Eastern Standard Time (EST) being 5 hours behind - unless you have Daylight Savings Time where you are. So:

8:00pm EDT = 12:00am GMT

Also, California is on Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) right now, so:

8:00pm EDT = 5:00pm (PDT)

However, if you're in Arizona or Hawaii, you don't have Daylight Savings Time, and you subtract 1 hour less than you normally would, so:

8:00pm EDT = 2:00pm HST (Hawaiian Standard Time), or
8:00pm EDT = 5:00pm MST (Mountain Standard Time)

(I don't really know most of this, but I use these really good resources:

What about a 24 hour Firefly marathon (all episodes twice or something?), we could start in Aus with Serenity, Finland up to say Out of Gas, by around UK DVD-watching time be well up to HoG, then start again. Can't do the sums, but I know at work we always schedule meetings with our East coast guys around 2pm UK which is sort of 9am EST I think. Maybe not every month but it would be fun to try a couple of times.

Then do it all again just before the BDM comes out and get lots of extra publicity.

Earlier is ok by me! The only pre-requisite for being allowed to attend is that you like Firefly. Oh, I guess another would be that you have the ability to watch the DVD and chat at the same time, wouldn't it?

From what I have gathered, the chat thingy on this site doesn't work for (I think) Shiny. The PLAN is to do it on AIM. I am crabbycat23. I haven't clue one how to go about it, though, so any help you can give a (hopefully) fellowine club member, would be greatly appreciated!

The chat thing on this site has never worked for me either.

The best way I can see to go about this is for everyone to go online at the appointed time, then I'll just send out generic chat invite to all the firefly people on my buddylist. The only problem I see is that people have to be invited in, so its pretty critical that you get your screen name off to me so i can invite you in. This inviting thing also has a plus side, no disgruntaled fans can come along and go, "What the hell is this? Firefly sucks!"

Once everybody is in we can all start whatever episode we want to watch at about the same time.

Hows that sound?
