Got a new car, got the old one ready to sell, which means I ejected the CD that was permanently stuck in there, though I hadn't been listening to it --all I've been listening to is radio or silence lately. I put the CD into my new car, and played it. It's one of mine, that I made two years ago, and it's been long enough now that I could listen and actually enjoy it again. (When you're too close to a project, all you hear is the places where the flaws are.) So...all this is a shaggy dog story to say, I've been listening to "Sir Sidney Smith" by James Hook, an 18th c English composer.

Oh, good choice on the Doctor. :) I know what you mean. People upstairs talking and banging around too.

Ah, I see. They must just like talking then. Siamese are. I knew a family that had a bunch of them when I was small. Always one would come over to a neighbour's house that I would go to and he would talk to me endlessly.

Most of that album - "A Kind of Magic" - was written around the Highlander movie; several of the songs were used in the movie, and one song, "One Vision", was used in the "Iron Eagle" soundtrack.

If you like that, give a listen to Blitzen Trapper's "American Goldwing"; I swear they're the reincarnation of Jerry Garcia.

I've also been digging deeper into Glam Rock lately - it all happened just a bit before my time when it came around, so I never got exposed to too much of it at the time; some Lou Reed "Transformer", Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" period, and some Sweet ("Desolation Boulevard" comes to mind)...

So I've been exploring the stuff on Spotify, Wiki, YouTube, delving through, making connections, seeking patterns. Lots of it has a Bertold Brecht/Kurt Weill sound and feeling to it, which makes sense, since "Cabaret" was a huge Broadway hit in '66 and a big movie smash in '72, and lots of the glam stuff was coming out of and centering around Berlin at the time as well. The Doors had covered Brecht's "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)" in '66, too, and Bowie took his shot at it later during his own Berlin period.

(Kiss's Ace Frehley had a decent hit with his version of this song)

Sooooo... lots of Roxy Music, Bowie, Cockney Rebel, Lou Reed, New York Dolls, Sweet, Hello, T. Rex, Brian Eno, and Mott the Hoople on my playlists lately. And even a little bit of KISS, since they - along with The Rocky Horror Picture Show - were pretty much the last gasps of the glam era as it was elbowed aside by punk and heavy metal, and then gave way to the hair bands of the 80s, which were there very own version of glam rock.

Todd Haynes did a movie about the era, "Velvet Goldmine", which is a fictionalized non-biographical piece about Bowie in that era, with characters based on Eno, Iggy Pop, and more. It's a very odd movie, but does quite a job of capturing the feel of the time, with some new music that was written for the movie which seems to fit quite well.

Hey Kwicko, I bet ya didn't know that before "Icehouse' was "Icehouse", they were "Flowers' and they did Glam rock and they opended for Bowie(in Australia)on his Ziggie Stardust Tour. Sorry but I don't post vids like you do but the vid is on Youtube, and its called "Glam" by 'Flowers'.

My favorite was Bowie as Ziggie Stardust, and you are one of the very few persons to mention Mott the Hoople. I was fond of Adam Ant, but he wasn't as glam.
