I've created the below survey as part of a scientific study of viewer romantic attraction to television and movie characters. It only takes about 10 minutes to take. I hope you folks don't mind that I'm posting this here, but I figured this was a good group to post to. Browncoats have a tendency to be cool, from what I've seen. If I'm out of line, don't be afraid to tell me. And discussion about the survey is fine here, I guess, although I can't use the data. For anyone that's interested, I do have the right approvals from my institution.

Sorry. As a more coherent response, I'm familiar with this phenomenon indirectly through my association with fanfic writing. I note that most of the people with interests in these characters are actually involved with a real person, often married.

I believe the attraction to the characters in question (even when the characters don't even have an aspect of realism to them, as in anime or cartoons) is due to the idealization of the characters within the confines of an idealized setting.

I am unable to take your survey because I do not personally experience the phenomenon, both in regards to fictional characters and real life persons. However, I hope my response has been useful.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I don't think I've ever been in love with a fictional character. The actress that portrays that character is another thing altogether.

Well, gee. The disclaimer stopped me. Did not sign.
Reminds me of cookies, spyware, malware. Hadn't thought of them
in a while. Every new site I visit can record my IP address?
The survey needs our IP addresses to insure that each entry is from
a different person, & no one is stuffing it?

EC, I'm the opposite, I don't really get crushes on actors, only their charactors, because I don't know anything about the actor, but I do know things about the charactor. Also, does having crushes on disreputable historic figures count? :))))))))

I'm going to go take this test, since no one else wants to. I'm guessing I should pick a charactor that I have a crush on from a show, easy peasy, I'll pick Simon Tam, no trouble there, so all my answers will be based on my attraction to Simon. Here I go.

Okay, some of these questions were extreme, but I just went with it and answered to the best of my abilities. I didn't like how the rating scale didn't indicate what 1 meant and what 9 meant. I assumed 1 meant "not at all" and nine meant "all the time", hopefully I was right or else my answers won't be accurate. I was also confused by the question "What sex do you identify with?", does that mean how do I define myself? Because that's what I took it to mean, but then they asked what my sex was so I said woman again, because that's what I am, both times. That could be made clearer. Then they asked my sexual orientation, easy enough, but I started to wonder if "what sex do you identify with" meant who are you attracted to. I'm hoping it means what sex am I as I took it to mean, oh well its only a goofy survey. But clarification from the survey writer that I answered those questionable parts right would be helpful. I thought the formatting left something to be desired, but I got through it.

You should do a similar survey, but have it be about charactors you admire or would want to be friends with, I'd have higher marks on that than a survey about romantic attraction.
